It's really your call...
We are all, of course, aware of the
constraints the economy has placed on our lives and I know, from personal
experience, how unsettling it is to change doctors. I would, if possible, like to spare my
patients that difficult decision. If you
have received a consultation, a written proposal, and a lower price quote from
another doctor, I would appreciate the opportunity of speaking with you by
phone or at the office and meeting that price.
I recently become aware of several
patients who had been gone for some time being treated at one of the other
cosmetic dermatologists in the area. In
each case they were attracted by the lure of extra-special prices and
too-good-to-be-true two-for-one offers. In
many cases the advertising was misleading.
The actual prices paid were much higher.
In every case, the patient was disappointed
in the care they received at the other offices and happy to be back. I would like to tell you I was not bothered
but that would not be true.
In my own life I have always sought
quality over price whether as a consumer or as a provider. Knowing you saved some money is scant
consolation when you are not satisfied with what you purchased. That is twice as pertinent when what you see
in the mirror every day is not what you would like to be seeing.

What are your thoughts on what we do?
We recently held a focus group at
the office in an attempt to discern the factors that go into the decisions we
make to seek non-invasive aesthetic medical treatments.
My sense is that the majority of
our patients would forego many of the "luxuries" of their life rather than give
up their aesthetic maintenance treatments.
A patient leaving the office the other day told us she would not
hesitate to give up going out to dinner and her daily Starbuck's fix but that
she would never give up her bi-monthly skin treatments at our medical spa. "It's something I do for my head as much for
my skin," she said.
That in itself was not
surprising. What was surprising was the
almost universal rejection of plastic surgery as a path to improving
appearance. I heard everything from
"when it's done, it's done," to "you're really taking a chance that you're
going to like how it turns out."
We expect
to have another group in mid-February and we will let you know well in advance.
