Why the FIGR doesn't like us very much
The FIGR has already begun to control the
local political process
IN A RECENT ARTICLE IN THE ROHNERT PARK PATCH, an Editor's note at the end says, "The tribe has estimated when built, the casino will inject millions of dollars annually into the local economy."
Here are some other things the FIGR estimates (Source: Graton Rancheria FEIS)
- The FIGR estimates that the casino will increase drug use by 95% and says that "casinos generate a universal demand for substance abuse assistance from affected social service departments".
- They say that River Rock's business will suffer a 13% decrease, but that figure is probably low. Typically, when a bigger casino that's closer to the urban areas gets built, the more remote casinos go out of business, or close to it.
- The FIGR says that "casino impact researchers did not find a remarkable relationship between casinos and child abuse.' The County responded, "That statement is false. Information from the Department of Health and Human Services indicates that 53% of men involved in domestic violence also abuse their children. Since the FEIS correctly recognizes the nexus between casino operations and domestic violence, it should also recognize the secondary nexus with child abuse and neglect."
- The FIGR says that the site's future trust status renders it consistent with General Plan goals regarding intense development in the designated community separator. The County says that "This claim is unavailing. Regardless of who owns the project site, the proposed project site is inconsistent with the General Plan, a significant impact. ".
I could on and on! The fact is that for the past eight years, virtually everything we've said about the casino has proved to be true. The casino developers, on the other hand, have done nothing but lie and distort information.

Brown gives Graton Rancheria Gambling Compact
BIA lies to local press
STC101 has been able to confirm that Gov. Jerry Brown has given the FIGR a gambling compact, and that negotiations were completed sometime in the late Summer to early Fall.
Not surprisingly, the BIA is lying to the local press about the compact. A recent article in the Rohnert Patch quotes the BIA spokeswoman Nedra Darling as saying, "We have received no word that the state and the tribe have come to a final agreement, so the compact - as far as we know - is still being negotiated," That's a bunch of hooey; if we know the compact has already been negotiated, the BIA knows, and they knew before we did. Make 'em do what they promise!
No guts, no glory!
Local elected officials ran campaigns using the casino as a key plank in their platforms. But what have they done about the casino since you gave them your vote? The answer is, nothing.
I'm not going to name names, but if you're a voter, you know who they are and what they said about the casino when they were trying to get your vote.
So give these people a phone call and remind them that they made you a promise when they ran, and ask them, "What have you done to stop the casino since you took office?"
