What's Been Happening?
Following the January 28th Awareness Rollout Event at The Chapman Cultural Center, much activity has taken place around The College Hub of Spartanburg County.
A Leadership Action Team, chaired by Rev. Dr. Clay Turner, worked bi-monthly to plan for a successful establishment of The College Hub of Spartanburg County. From January through March, the Leadership Action Team worked very hard to identify a Board of Directors, draft bylaws, file for nonprofit status and determine a fiscal agent for The College Hub of Spartanburg County whose mission is to "lead and support educational achievement at all ages, resulting in 40% baccalaureate degree attainment by 2030."
We are excited to announce that the bylaws for The College Hub of Spartanburg County have been formulated and are awaiting final approval by The College Hub Board of Directors. The process has begun to incorporate the organization with the State of South Carolina. In six to eight months, The College Hub will be a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization.
A very heartfelt "Thank You" goes to the Leadership Action Team for generously giving their time and expertise to The College Hub of Spartanburg County. We would like to extend our appreciation and acknowledge the members of this group listed below.

School Districts Apply for Grant That Will Benefit The College Hub
Spartanburg County School Districts have applied for a $36.25 million Federal Validation grant whose overall objective is to increase the percentage of Spartanburg County students graduating from high school, entering college and obtaining a baccalaurete degree. They will do this by enacting initiatives that improve college awareness and preparatory strategies throughout the educational system, increasing student competencies as they navigate the college selection process and providing "bridge" scholarships for identified students.
A portion of the grant will be allocated to the establishment of The College Hub of Spartanburg County. This would allow The College Hub to hire a full-time executive director, coordinator and admistrative assistant. It will also provide other necessary operational funding. Potentially, there will be monies allocated to scholarships if funds can be matched.
This grant is a true representation of our community coming together through a partnership between all seven school districts, five colleges and universities, and many of Spartanburg's private schools, businesses, foundations and governmental entities. We will know in July if the school districts get the grant - keep your fingers crossed!
