Thanksgiving Service Results in a $17,000 Blessing for Total Ministries

The Spartanburg County Foundation sponsored the Annual Community Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday, November 24th at 7:00 p.m. This year's service was hosted by Silver Hill Memorial United Methodist Church and was attended by more than 500 members of the community.

The Foundation and an anonymous donor each designated a $5,000 matching grant for the offering, which benefited Total Ministries this year.  These gifts, coupled with the offering received, resulted in over $17,000 in support for the organization.  Total Ministries will use the funding to provide much needed heating assistance to Spartanburg residents this winter.

Thank you Spartanburg!

Mary L. Thomas, Executive Vice President of The Spartanburg County Foundation, was recently elected to the Board of the Southeastern Council of Foundations, a membership association of more than 360 grantmakers working together to strengthen, promote and increase philanthropy in 11 southeastern states.  As a member of the Board, Mary will work alongside other philanthropic leaders across the region to create lasting change in communities throughout the Southeast.

"Mary's participation on this and other regional boards affords the Foundation an opportunity to learn from other communities experiencing many of the same challenges we face in Spartanburg.  This valuable information enhances the Foundation's ability to provide leadership to our community in addressing our most pressing issues and to form vital connections with other funders working to strengthen our region," stated John Dargan, President & CEO of The Spartanburg County Foundation.
