HSOY offers no-cost spay and neuter surgeries in San Luis

The Humane Society of Yuma's mobile spay and neuter clinic will be in San Luis, Arizona on Wednesday, December 21st at the San Luis Cultural Center to perform up to 35 surgeries at no-cost for residents of South County.

The surgeries will be by appointment only and assigned on a first-come first-serve basis. Because of the limited number of surgeries available, appointments should be made as early as possible.

Appointments can be made by calling 928-247-9115. Check-in will be from 7-8am.
HSOY offered a similar service last month to East County residents when its mobile spay and neuter clinic visited Tacna. These no-cost clinics are made possible by a grant HSOY received from the Yuma Community Foundation.

Requirements and restrictions:
This clinic will provide vaccinations and spay/neuter for domestic pets only. Feral cats will not be accepted for this event. Animals must be in good health, under six years old, free of ticks and fleas and not grossly obese. Animals may be rejected at check -in if they do not fit the health requirements as determined by the veterinarian. If your pet does not meet the requirements, arrangements may be made to allow the pet to be altered at another time.

Jack is still looking for his forever home.
Jack, featured on Facebook last week and Youtube the beginning of this week, is still looking for a home.
Jim and Jack

If you've been to our shelter any time in the last three weeks, there's a good chance you've been greeted by Jack and Jim. Jack, a border collie blend we estimate to be around three years old, was already a legend at the shelter for months before he arrived, having eluded our animal control officers for months . Jim McQuinn, one of our ace volunteers (if we paid him, he'd be getting overtime) and master dog whisperer, has been working with Jack since then to make sure this free spirit was ready to be adopted into a loving, forever home.

There is no doubt that he was some one's pet at one time or that he's ready to sign up with a new one. For one, he's potty trained and has never had an accident in his kennel. He was already neutered when he arrived and also knows some basic commands, such as sit, shake and lie down. While he is a little shy at first, Jim says, he warms up to you quickly.

The two have spent hours every day together either sitting in front of our shelter or playing together in our play area.

"He walks very well on a leash, is very alert, highly intelligent, super- friendly and mellow. He likes to sit and watch people as they come into the shelter." Jim said. "He likes kids, seems to like other dogs, and just ignores cats. Jack is an amazing dog who deserves a family to enjoy life with."

RESCUE WORKS!
A RESCUE JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Ruby
Our rescue program has become an increasingly spectacular success with the number of pets rescued from our shelter nearing the 3,000 mark.  This is a very recent story of Ruby, a stray that had been at our a while before we hooked her up with the Arizona Weimaraner Rescue. This message was received by Loma Clark, our longtime rescue coordinator from Rebecca Kapp of  Arizona Weimaraner Rescue.

Loma,
Little Ruby went right from the bus ride to the vet. Was spay, I picked her up this morning and she went to her new home tonight. She will be a Christmas gift for three little children who just lost their Duke, a beloved family dog who was near nineteen years old. The family had him since he was around three years old so they had him for sixteen years.  They had to put him down last week. Mom even went to school and pulled them all out so they could be with him when he went on.  They are spending the week end with Dad so when they get home Monday after school I am sure I will hear the loving squeals of a Christmas they will never forget. She is in a great place. Thanks for letting me find her a wonderful new home.

Note: While we strongly advise against pets being "surprise" or "impulsive" presents, since adopting a pet into the family is a huge commitment the entire family needs to be on board with.  But, there are cases in which a family has shown a proven commitment to a pet, such as this case.
FEATURED PET
Sharky
Sharky
What a beauty this big boy is and he has the most lovable personality. Sharky earmed his name because he has the cutest overbite. Sharky, a blue and white American pit bull terrier, has the most beautiful eyes. Sharky was brought into our shelter by a person that just found him strolling down the street all by himself. While Sharky is great with people, he will have to be an only pet, because he does not play well with other dogs. However, when it comes to people, Sharky is the goofiest love bug you'll ever meet. If the kennels had a class clown, it'd be Sharky. He loves to play ball, loves his belly rubbed, is very smart, most likely potty trained and loves hanging out right by your side. So, if you are looking for that one and only special pet in your life, Sharky would be the perfect pick. Save a Bully... we have too many filling up shelters all across America and they really do make great best friends!
THANK YOU!
Boy saves allowance to donate beds to HSOY

Tanner Branch, son of Greg and Vicky Branch, brought in 12 dog beds on Saturday that he had paid for by saving his allowance, which his parents and grandparents both matched.  He wish he could take them home but, of course, he realizes that he can't do that so this is his way of helping out the homeless pets.  He said that his favorite kind of dogs are German shepherds and bulldogs.

Gomez
Gomez

Just take a look at this pretty boy. Gomez is a terrier-blend and has soft, golden hair. At eight months old, he's still a puppy. He's a lover, a kisser, and a snuggler. One of the many good things about Gomez is that he weighs only 12.5 pounds which makes for a perfect-sized lap dog or traveling partner. Gomez is already neutered, micro chipped and is current with vaccines as well as his rabies vaccine all he needs now is a warm, loving home to spend the holidays and every one of his holidays thereafter. Please visit our shelter and take one of our guests home for the holidays.

... and thanks to Chrissy Love, a fan of ours on Facebook, for Photoshopping what reality should look like (and hopefully will) for Gomez.
