Help us win $20,000: Vote for us on Facebook
Wednesday, May 25, 2011
There is a common theme running through this week's ePaws: "It's on Facebook."  If you are not yet on Facebook, what better excuse to sign up than to help Yuma's homeless pets?

Help HSOY win $20,000 in pet supplies just by "liking" a page and casting a vote.  No catch, no gimmick

Two weeks ago, we asked our Facebook followers to nominate us for a $70,000 pet supplies contest by liking Dr. Marty Becker's Facebook page and posting their nomination on his wall.

The contest received more than 13,000 nominations, and 50 finalists have been selected at random from among them, and will go on to the voting round. And, HSOY was one of the 50! Please vote for us by following this link, liking Dr. Marty Becker's page and then voting for us (#27).

As part of the BIG Bus Tour celebrating the release of Your Dog: The Owner's Manual, Dr. Marty Becker is giving away pet care products, supplies and equipment valued at more than $70,000 to shelters and rescue groups across the country, all donated by leading pet and veterinary product manufacturers.

Thank you to the Wild Imagination Pottery Studio

This Tuesday,  we picked up a large box filled with towels and food donations from the Wild Imagination Pottery Studio.

Every month, the Wild Imagination Pottery Studio has a fundraiser for a  local non-profit.  For the past two months, they gave 50% off on their Studio Fee for anyone that brought in a can or bag of pet food.
4 Paws Pantry has largest distribution day to date

Paws Pantry volunteer Linda Christopher posted the following report on today's monthly distribution day on Facebook.

"It WAS THE BIGGEST 4 PAWS PANTRY DISTRIBUTION DAY EVER TODAY!!! We helped 35 families in the first hour of being open and gave a whopping 1475 pounds of food away in total (in a 3 hour time frame)! YAY FOR THE HUNGRY DOGGIES AND KITTIES! By the way, if you can't imagine how much food that is it is almost 3 completely stuffed full loads in my Rav4 SUV...now that's a lot of hauling...the "Pantry Ladies" rock!!! :)

Tell us what "Be Humane" product we should offer next.

We are turning to our supporters on Facebook to decide for us what product we should include next in the "Be Humane" line.  Our "Be Humane" campaign was launched a couple months ago to both help fund the construction of a new shelter and to spread the message on being humane.

The choices are

Beach towel
Beach towel (black)
cloth baseball cap with logo
Cloth baseball cap with "Be Humane" logo

In addition to featured shelter animals being posted on Facebook, we have a long time volunteer, Laurie Dunn, who regularly posts pictures on our wall of adoptable pets at our PetSmart adoption center

Ruby

Yes, Ruby's been waiting a petsmart just a little to long. Where are you? She's looking for a new family. Very gentle. Loves kids and other dogs. Just don't like someone yelling.

Sadie

Did some pictures at Petsmart today but many have been there for over a week. They really need you to come and check them out. Some really great dogs waiting. I'm trying not to rant on why some of them are there but go read the remarks on the kennel card for yourself. I only have ONE thing to say. It's great all these dogs are finding homes but for heck sakes think about it!! Do you want to love this dog and care for it for the rest of it's life? Don't just adopt one on a whim or cause you passed by and thought it cute. This is Sadie and she will try and get out and leave so needs a good fenced yard.

If you like happy adoption success stories, you can find quite a few supporter posted pictures and short blurbs on Facebook.

Mia

Mia was adopted in December and just wanted to let you know, she has made herself at home quite nicely and she loves being my model for photography class...lol!

HSOY starts "Adopt a Cat Month" early

Adopt a cat month

The Humane Society of Yuma, along with American Humane Association and hundreds of shelters across the nation, recognizes June as Adopt-a-Cat month.  June is the height of kitten season, a time of year when warm weather coincides with female cats' heat cycles to create a kitten population explosion.

Every June for the past several years, the Humane Society of Yuma has celebrated Adopt-a-Cat month with a special promotion that offers two cat adoptions for the price of one. This year, however, the Humane Society of Yuma has decided to begin celebrating early due to an influx of both kittens and adult cats.

Beginning immediately, cat lovers can adopt two cats for the price of one. Additionally, single cat adoptions are 50% off.  This offer is good at both the PetSmart adoption center.
