Adoption Success: Coco Chanel
I received your follow up card today regarding our Yuma adoption.  I have been meaning to send some pictures and thought this would be a good time to send them and to respond to your inquiry. We adopted a puppy that was fostered by Becky Naquin and I hope you will pass the pictures on to her.

Nugget and CocoShe was our first contact when we were looking for an adult dog at the pet store adoption center and mentioned that she had some puppies that were rescued from a back yard around Christmas and would soon be old enough to adopt.  We did go back to see the puppies and adopted "Belen" that very day.

She was named after Becky's daughter but we did change the name to Coco Chanel Sonius because we think she is the ultimate designer dog.  She has so many mixes that one cannot tell the parts so we think she is an original.   Coco weighed 4 pounds when we adopted her and is about 10 pounds now.  She is small in body but large in presence.  She is curious and learns what she wants to learn quickly.
Coco

She adapted to R.V. life very well and was surprised and a little disappointed that she had to live in a house too.  She is very devoted to our other puppy, Nugget and that makes us most happy.   Coco just had her 6 month birthday and I have high hopes for getting through the rest of the puppy months successfully.  She is high energy and an eating machine.

We have only started this journey and hope that likes us as much as we like her. I have enclosed pictures.  Thank you for checking on us.  We will probably visit you when we are in Yuma again.

Thrift store item of the week: Serging machine

Serger sewing machine 1

An item of interest for anyone into crafty stuff. This is a barely-used, near-mint "serger" that we have come into possession of.  It is at the thrift store and available for $600. If interested, call the thrift store at (928) 783-0408.
Provide comfort to a large or extra-large shelter dog with a Kuranda bed
Our shelter doggies deserve every ounce of comfort we can provide them. And one thing that goes a long way in providing comfort are Kuranda beds. Kuranda beds are sturdy and long lasting so you will be providing a lasting gift for our shelter dogs. They come with a One Year Warranty!

Kuranda beds

Donations that are made on behalf of a friend or family member for their birthday, anniversary, holiday or simply being a caring pet lover are acknowledged with a personalized Gift Card to inform them of the wonderful gift selected to help them celebrate.

A click on the Gift Card option is all it takes.\

UPDATE: Kuranda has just started offering cat beds that will expand our cats' much needed vertical space and HSOY higher ups have approved a pilot program to see if they work out. If they do, we will be adding cat beds to our Kuranda account page. We'll let you know when that happens.

A few of our dogs at PetSmart

Blackie

Blackie was found as a stray on streets of San Luis, Arizona. A Good Samaritan brought him all the way up to our shelter so Blackie could have a chance at finding his forever home.

Mona

When Mona was picked up as a stray in mid-April, she was covered in ticks.  She has since not only gotten rid of her ticks but has also been spayed and is ready to find her forever home. Find her at PetSmart.

Bonnie Bell
Bonnie Bell was turned into the shelter by a concerned citizen in mid April.

Goldie Hawn

Goldie Hawn

If you could adopt Goldie Hawn, wouldn't you? Well, this is your big chance. Goldie Hawn is a three year old lab mix that is in need of a loving family. Goldie was found taking a walk down a canal bank here in Yuma. With no family to call her own, we are going to do our best to find her one. Goldie Hawn is a quiet, peaceful, mellow dog who is just looking for a relaxed family to move in with. Goldie walks nice on a leash and would probably do best in an adult household. Goldie may be just looking for a big fluffy pillow in a quiet place she could relax and call home. So if you're looking to have a little piece of Hollywood to call your own, what else could be better than this Golden Girl? So please come adopt Goldie Hawn today!!
Rocky

Rocky

Rocky is a champion boxer. He's playful, silly, sweet and loves to give great big doggy kisses. Rocky is about nine months old and was adopted from us when he was just a puppy, having come to the shelter with six other siblings. A few months down the road and Rocky had a sequel return to the shelter. His adopted family returned him due to their moving. Rocky is an amazing dog who'd be an amzing dog and would love to be with a great family pet because he loves all of his fans and everyone he meets quickly becomes a fan. He mingled and networked with plenty of people and pets of prospective families and did great but just didn't get the big break he was hoping for. So why not make Rocky a star in your family and adopt this champ today?
Rambo

Rambo

This handsome, long-legged fellow is Rambo. Rambo is two year old miniature pincher /Chihuahua-mix. Perhaps a Deer Chihuahua, by the looks of those legs. Rambo has been a guest with us more than once but not by any fault of his own. Rambo was just a baby the first time we met him. He was picked up with his siblings along a canal bank. All the family found homes but then about a year later Rambo was picked up exploring the streets of Yuma. He was returned to his owner and then, just this April, here comes our long-time friend again. This time Rambo was found out and about by a concerned citizen and, sadly, this time it looks like nobody is coming to pick him up. So a long story made short is that Rambo, an amazingly sweet dog, needs a family that will take great care of him and love him until the end. Rambo is playful, walks well on a leash and loves to give doggie kisses. What else could be better than that. So please come by and visit him today, he could be the one for you!
