So many animals, so little space!
One of our fantastic adoption counselors, Qiana Lovelace, guides us through our jam-packed dog kennels in this video with puppy dog eyes overload. Make sure you expand the video (the outward arrows at the lower right corner of the video box) to get the full high-resolution video. | | So many animals, so little space! Please adopt! |

Save the date: Fur Ball V
Announcing Fur Ball V. The annual gala is the gem in our tireless efforts to realize the dream of opening the new shelter Yuma's animals deserve. Fur Ball V will be a celebration of our enduring dedication to being humane. A celebration of the new shelter "going vertical" despite being broadsided by the Great Recession and the ongoing, historic real estate implosion.
The date this year is set for Saturday, September 17, 2011. Write it in your calendars now. Details will be forthcoming along with online ticket sales.

Rags to Riches or Scooter and the Groomer: A love story
Scooter, pictured here, was rescued from the streets of Yuma by Animal ControlOfficer Amy Fitzgerald. As you can see, he was in pretty bad shape. He was carrying an extra 5 lbs. of solid, dirty matted hair all over his body. The poor guy must have been absolutely miserable.

A big thank you to one of our amazing volunteers, Kay, who helped groom him. She, with help from the staff, spent over two hours on Scooter. The whole time she was cutting his hair, Scooter kept sneaking in sweet kisses on her hands, undoubtedly an expression of his sincere gratitude. Kay says,"Scooter is a good boy, and very sweet."
Now that Scooter has had a great weight lifted from him, he's feeling pretty dang good. He's a tad on the shy side but probably because he has never known that loving, cared for feeling before. Every day, Scooter is getting lots of love and playtime and is blossoming into a great dog. So please head down and visit Scooter today, he could be the one for you.
Scooter is estimated to be around three years old and has been neutered and is current on all of his shots.
The Humane Society of Yuma is indebted to the local groomers who get our dogs ready for the showroom floor at either no cost or at a discount. The Yuma Sun recently publiushed an online photo gallery of shelter dogs who've had groomer makeovers. |

Thank you to Girl Scout Troop 30
Thank you to the Junior and Senior Level Girl Scouts of Troop #30 who toured our shelter Tuesday and brought along homemade dog and cat toys. Strays who come into our shelter come, obviously, nameless. While our staff bestow a majority of them with names, many go onto the floor without a name officially given to them, especially when the intake is high as it has been the last few weeks. These loving girls took it upon themselves to look into the eyes of each of the as-of-then yet to be named dogs and named them. Dogs are smart and they know when they are given the individual love and attention they deserve. The service these girls rendered to our guests was priceless and if there was a "being humane at a pet shelter" merit badge, each one of these Scouts would have earned it. |
