Luke Skywalker wants you to help takeover Lute's

Luke Skywalker requests you join the HSOY New Shelter Project's takeover of Lute's Casino on Sunday, February 20th.  Do not force him to use Jedi mind tricks.

Lute's, at 211 S. Main St., will be donating 15% of all sales between 3 and 6pm on Sunday, February 20th, to the Humane Society of Yuma's New Shelter Project. Also on hand will be Marian Olson Ralston and her husband Jack, who will be playing the piano for tips to benefit the new shelter.

Luke Skywalker will not be able to attend due to his corn and wheat allergies and he is aggressive towards other dogs.  He was turned in by an owner who said he was getting more and more agitated by his doggy siblings. We have every reason to believe Luke would be a great only child, though.

Print the flyer out below and help Luke get the word out!

Whisper has your Saturday night all planned out

Whisper knows where to go Saturday night

Whisper, a female Queensland Heeler turned in as a stray by a good citizen, has your Saturday night all planned out. Why not get a solid evening of quality live entertainment at the Palms RV Resort?  The Palms RV Resort is going all out in support of Yuma's needy pets with a concert series over the next couple of months that will benefit the Humane Society of Yuma.  The ticket price to each of these events is $8, $2 of which will be donated to the Humane Society of Yuma.

Whose at the Palms this Saturday night, you ask? Whisper will tell you. Robin Roth.  After two years, touring worldwide, as the lead singer for the "New Christy Minstrels", Robin Roth, corporate comedian was also the lead singer for the top 40's group "Sunshine People" and "Pyro". Having appeared in Las Vegas, Reno and New York to standing room only crowds, this vivacious performer can do it all! So be there at 7pm, a little earlier if you want to meet our new shelter manager, Dennis Owen, who's bringing along a special guest who'll be available for adoption.

HSOY's take of ticket sales for the previous concert was over $1,500 alone! So if you're looking for a fun night out with a low ticket price, why not make it out to The Palms RV Resort? HSOY will be there for every one of them with an adoptable pet to show the world.

East County rabies clinics tomorrow

Our annual rabies clinic tour of the county will make a couple of stops in East County tomorrow.  We'll be at the Dateland School from 9 to 11am and Wellton's Butterfield Park from 1 to 3 in the afternoon.

All dogs three months or older residing in Yuma County must be licensed by March 31st. The license verifies that your dog is current with his/her rabies vaccination.

If your dog is vaccinated, you may license online beginning January 1st with a scanned or faxed copy of your dog's valid rabies certificate. A valid certificate must be signed by a U.S. licensed veterinarian, state whether your dog is altered or not, and be current through at least April 1st.

If a rabies vaccine expires during the year, your dog must be revaccinated in order to keep the license valid.  A license is invalid during any lapse between the expiration of a vaccination and revaccination.

If your dog needs to be vaccinated, the Humane Society of Yuma holds a number of rabies clinics at locations around the county for your convenience.

Jimmy John says, "Keep that non-clumping kitty litter coming!"
Jimmy John needs kitty litterJimmy John is a handsome little man who needs to tell you that HSOY's cats need more non-clumping kitty litter.

Jimmy John is a five month old who ended up at the shelter because his family's landlord had issues with him. It's nothing Jimmy John did, though.  In fact, by all accounts, Jimmy John was an ideal resident, sharing living quarters peacably with two children, a guinea pig and a rabbit.

Mama Mia making someone happy

Mama Mia jagging on the couch

Dear (Adoption Counselor) Linda,

I decided to adopt a cat from the Humane Society of Yuma because I have been around cats my whole life.
I adopted a cat named Mama Mia; she was abandoned by her owner with her kittens. She was the only cat I decided to spend time with and automatically fell in love with her. She was so sweet and playful, I didn't even have to think twice! When I brought her home, she was a bit frightened but quickly adjusted to her new home.

It has now been 3 months since the adoption and I have absolutely no regrets. Mia has such great characteristics and is the friendliest cat I have ever had. She loves to play and everytime I come home from school or work, she is sitting right at the door waiting for me with her favorite toy. I couldn't ask for a better companion!

I have attached some pictures of Mia for you to see.

Enjoy :)

Sincerely,

Lisa Grider
