Grand Opening of PetSmart Adoption Center

On Saturday, February 5th, the ribbon was cut to HSOY's PetSmart Adoption Center.  On hand to do the honors were Yuma City Councilman Jerry Stuart, Yuma County Supervisor Lenore Stuart, PetSmart Charities Director of Programs Dan Tisch, Deputy Mayor Raul Mendoza, and HSOY Executive Director Shawn Smith (pictured below, from left to right).

KSWT seeks Sunny's successor

Famed HSOY alum Sunny the Weather Dog is leaving Yuma as he accompanies his mom, Shannon Maze, to their new home in Birmingham, Alabama.  This leaves KSWT with a vacancy--a vacancy that Sunny has agreed to help fill before departing.

Sunny has narrowed the field down to three candidates.  But Sunny is turning to the general public to conduct the final interview.

To view the final candidates and to vote for the one you think can best fill Sunny's harness, visit kswt.com.
HSOY will celebrate Love Your Pet Day at Lute's

Lutes Casino "Love Your Pet Day"Of course, every day is "Love Your Pet Day," but on February 20th, it's officially "Love Your Pet Day," and to help us celebrate, Lute's has invited us to take over their restaurant.

Lute's Casino, at 211 S. Main St., will be donating 15% of all sales between 3 and 6pm on Sunday, February 20th, to the Humane Society of Yuma's New Shelter Project. Also on hand will be Marian Olson Ralston and her husband Jack, who will be playing the piano for tips to benefit the new shelter.

The Palms RV Resort concerts to benefit HSOY are huge successes.

The Palms RV Resort is going all out in support of Yuma's needy pets with a concert series over the next couple of months that will benefit the Humane Society of Yuma.  The ticket price to each of these events is $8, $2 of which will be donated to the Humane Society of Yuma.

HSOY's take of ticket sales for last Tuesday's "Bernie & Red" concert was over $1,500 alone! So if you're looking for a fun night out with a low ticket price, why not make it out to The Palms RV Resort? HSOY will be there for every one of them with an adoptable pet to show the world.

Next rabies clinic:  2/12 at San Luis Cultural Center

All dogs three months or older residing in Yuma County must be licensed by March 31st. The license verifies that your dog is current with his/her rabies vaccination.

If your dog is vaccinated, you may license online beginning January 1st with a scanned or faxed copy of your dog's valid rabies certificate. A valid certificate must be signed by a U.S. licensed veterinarian, state whether your dog is altered or not, and be current through at least April 1st.

If a rabies vaccine expires during the year, your dog must be revaccinated in order to keep the license valid.  A license is invalid during any lapse between the expiration of a vaccination and revaccination.

If your dog needs to be vaccinated, the Humane Society of Yuma holds a number of rabies clinics at locations around the county for your convenience.

Big Ben
Big BenBefore Big Ben starts in about himself. He has been given the very important mission to inform everyone of the critical need for non-clumping kitty litter at the shelter. Big boys like Big Ben go through a lot of kitty litter.

Now about himself. Big Ben is looking for love this Valentine's Day (albeit of the purely platonic variety). Big Ben is a handsome kitty, He's around two years old, neutered, been feline leukemia tested, and is current on his vaccines and rabies shot. So, in other words, he's ready to go home with you straight off the showroom floor.

Did you know that Big Ben just won "Yuma's Best" blue eyes? And runner-up in big, cute, squishy cheeks. Big Ben's meow is adorable and he loves to be petted and loved on. Big Ben would be the perfect Valentine. But remember, don't bring chocolate or roses to woo Big Ben. Bring non-clumping kitty litter.

Pebbles
PebblesThis adorable, precious little lady is Pebbles. Pebbles was rescued from the street by Cpl. Sota of our Animal Control Dept. She had been called in as a "sick or injured." Pebbles had possibly been hit by a car while she was out in the streets. Pebbles is one lucky dog. Besides a little scrape here and there, she is doing well.

Unfortunately, no owners have ever come for her. The good news is a new family will have no problem falling in love with this girl. She is sugar-coated in nothing but sweetness. Pebbles is between one and two years old, has been spayed, microchipped, and is current with all of her vaccines. Pebbles' breed, however, is still a mystery. She looks like a miniature yellow lab but she no doubt has a healthy dose of beagle, chihuahua and/or even terrier. She is on the small side and will stay that way. She weighs in at 12.8 lbs. No matter her pedigree, Pebbles would be a great family dog. She is always happy. Anytime anyone walks up to her to say "Hi," her tail starts wagging 100 miles per hour.
