HSOY to host feral cat town hall
The Humane Society of Yuma invites the public to attend a town hall meeting onTuesday, February 8 at 5:30pm at the Hampton Inn (1600 East 16th ST) on the topicof feral cats.
In addition to HSOY's position on feral cat management, the City ofYuma's proposed ordinance relating to feral cats will be also discussed. While not contracted by either the City or County to manage or impound cats, theHumane Society of Yuma, as Yuma's only animal welfare and sheltering organization, has taken on an active role in addressing the issue and engaging both municipalities and the public.
The Humane Society of Yuma advocates Trap-Neuter Return as the best approach to manage feral cat populations. Studies have shown that T.N.R. (Trap-Neuter-Return) is the only effective, humane method of feral cat population control.
Traditional "trap and kill" has been found tobe largely ineffective due to the prolific reproductive capabilities of unaltered cats. The permanent removal of cats creates a vacuum effect with the remainingpopulation of unaltered cats rapidly repopulating the depopulated areas.

Next rabies clinic: 2/12 at San Luis Cultural Center
All dogs three months or older residing in Yuma County must be licensed by March 31st. The license verifies that your dog is current with his/her rabies vaccination.
If your dog is vaccinated, you may license online beginning January 1st with a scanned or faxed copy of your dog's valid rabies certificate. A valid certificate must be signed by a U.S. licensed veterinarian, state whether your dog is altered or not, and be current through at least April 1st.
If a rabies vaccine expires during the year, your dog must be revaccinated in order to keep the license valid. A license is invalid during any lapse between the expiration of a vaccination and revaccination.
If your dog needs to be vaccinated, the Humane Society of Yuma holds a number of rabies clinics at locations around the county for your convenience.

Bubba
Meet Bubba. He's a very, very special guy that deserves a great forever home. Bubba has a skin condition called Demodex. It's a mite that takes of the skin in animals that have a weakened immune system. We can put him on medication for the next three months but we really, really need someone who will take him and give him a great home. We will continue to treat him for his condition for the first three months he's found his forever home. While that may be a sufficient amount of time to clear up his condition, his new forever family must understand that continued care may be needed. So if you have a special place in your heart for special need dogs, make Bubba a special addition to your family today!
