50% off all adoptions in November!

The Humane Society of Yuma is reducing all adoption fees by 50% in the month of November.  The  "Finding  Everyone a Home for the Holidays" promotion has been launched to decrease the number of adoptable pets that we are being forced to euthanize in order to make room for new arrivals.

Finding everyone a home for the holidays.

All HSOY adoptions are 50% off during the month of November at both the shelter and PetSmart.  The reduced adoption rates will be as follows. Puppies (four months of age and younger) are $45 at the shelter and $50 at PetSmart, adult dogs $37 at the shelter and $43 at Petsmart.  Kittens (four months and younger) are now $27 at the shelter and $32 at Petsmart; cats are now $22 at the shelter and $27 at PetSmart.

Price includes the pet's spay or neuter, vaccinations for distemper, parvo, bordatella,  and rabies.  It also includes microchipping for dogs. The cats at Petsmart have been tested for feline leukemia and FIV.

Ye Olde Christmas Shop opens at our thrift store

Our Christmas Shop is now open Monday through Saturday, 9am to 4pm. It's next to our Main Thrift Store behind Audio Einstein's.

And just as our opening of the PetSmart has increased our need for volunteers, so has the opening of our Christmas Shop increased our need for thrift store volunteers. It's a great way to help the animals without having to go in to the shelter. Call Sherrell at 928.580.1000.

Ye Olde Christmas ShopAnd do you have some extra decorations this year that you're not putting up but are in good enough condition that someone else might want them to make their yard or home more festive? We accept store donations during store hours. Pick up and delivery can be arranged. Call Sherrell at 928.580.1000.

Do not drop off donations after store hours, as they are subject to theft and vandalism.

Walk 'n Wag a week away! Get excited!

Walk n Wag 2010 We're inviting Yuma's pet parents and pups to put their best paw forward the the Fourth Annual Walk n' Wag , and walk their way to a new shelter for Humane Society of Yuma. Walkers will walk or run a three mile stretch in the Bark Park, while enjoying great tunes and learning the tricks and trades of being a better pet parent.

This is a FREE event (with or without a dog).  Walkers with pledges/donations of $25 will receive an event T-shirt and walkers with pledges/donations of $35 or more will receive an event T-shirt and a bandana for their pup.

This year's event promises to be the best yet with a pet photo booth, pet/owner look-a-like contest, food & drinks, pet goodies, pet microchipping, and raffle prizes.  The raffle's grand prize this year is a Bose Lifestyle 28 Series III Surround Sound valued at around $2,000.00 donated by Bose Corporation! Activities for everyone young and old, two and four legged.

This year's Walk N Wag homecoming king is KSWT's own Sunny the Weather Dog, and our Queen is Destiny.  Destiny is one of our most publicized cruelty cases from two years ago, and she is ready to shine and share her success story with Yuma!  Register the day of the event or visit www.hsoyuma.com/walknwag.
You can also purchase raffle tickets online for $5 each and do not have to be present to win.

Volunteers needed!

We are holding a volunteer orientation tonight at the Main Library from 6 to 7pm.

Our need for volunteers has greatly increased with the impending opening of the in-store PetSmart adoption facility.

While our opportunities for more adoptions have dramatically increased our budget has not so volunteers are critical to this programs success.

Want to walk dogs? Cuddle cats? Clean kitten cages and puppy tubs?  We need you!  Please clear your schedules tonight between 6 and 7 and help us save lives!
Yuma High FBLA donates $250

Yuma High School's FBLA presents Erin Sitera with $250 donation.

Yuma High School Future Business Leaders of America held a fundraiser for both the Humane Society of Yuma and Amberly's Place , similar to last year's Spirit Chain Sale,. The profits from this year's sale were equally split between each of the two organizations.  A check in the amount of $250.00 was presented to HSOY's Shawn Smith & Erin Sitera during the October 29th Pep Rally.

HSOY helps Canteen Dance with ticket sales

Canteen DanceHSOY is assisting the Canteen Dance with ticket sales and will get a kickback for every ticket we sell.  The event, which is done in the spirit of a 1940's-style U.S.O. sponsored dance, will be held at the Hilton Inn on November 20th with dancing, drinks, and desserts.  Buy a $30 tax-deductible ticket through HSOY and $5 will go to the New Shelter Project. A VIP table for $250 includes tickets, desserts, and a dance with the sailor of your choice. Active and retired military get into the event for free. The event benefits the building of a new school and a new shelter for Yuma. Want to help kids & animals with a retro night of fun? Call Molly Bowes at (928) 388-4785 to get a ticket while donating to our new shelter. We'll also get a commission for tickets sold at Walk 'n Wag 2010.

Patsy

PatsyPatsy is a young female ( one to two years old) Great Dane mix. She was found wandering the streets and was taken in by a family. Sadly, the family could not keep her. She is a gentle, sweet girl who will need plenty of room to run and play. Due to her life on the streets she had become a bit protective of her food with her former family. She was around a child of ten years and was fine, but found chasing cats a great activity
