Keep Your Pet Safe On Halloween

While Halloween is fun for humans, it's not so much fun for pets.  Keep your Dog in pumpkin costumepet safe this Halloween with these tips and share them with others to help keep all pets safe this Halloween.

  • Keep your pet indoors. A pet that's out at night with trick-or-treaters might get spooked by noise and costumes, which could cause him to run off and get lost.  All cats should be kept indoors at all times; however, if you have a solid black or solid white cat, you should be especially careful about keeping him indoors on Halloween. Some people are superstitious about cats and may try to scare or harm him.
  • Keep your pet confined and away from the door while you're greeting trick-or treaters at your home to prevent him from darting outdoors.  Your dog may feel that his territory is being invaded by the constant onslaught of visitors. Keeping your dog in a secluded area of the house will help him stay calm and prevent him from growling or possibly biting your visiting ghouls and goblins.
  • Keep Halloween candy out of your pet's reach because it can make your pet sick. In fact, chocolate and raisins can be fatal to dogs! Celebrate Halloween with your pet by giving him goodies that are made especially for his species, like dog biscuits or cat treats.

Salary dependent on experience.

To apply, email your resume and references to alagunas@hsoyuma.com.

No phone calls please.

Volunteers needed!
We are holding a volunteer orientation on Thursday, November 4 at the Main Library from 6 to 7pm.  Want to walk dogs? Cuddle cats? Clean kitten cages and puppy tubs?  We need you!  Please mark it on your calendars.
Pennies for Hope

Millie Becker made a donation in honor of her husband Bill "Two Dollar Bill" Becker.  Bill had saved pennies for over 13 years in a five gallon bottle.  Bill, a retired Marine, passed away on June 26 of this year.   Millie asked that the donation go towards the Ruby Cruelty Fund for little Hope.  The total donation was $155.06 in pennies.

Walk 'n Wag only two weeks away! Get excited!

Walk n Wag 2010Come and show your HSOY spirit by putting your best paw forward and joining us for our 4th annual Walk 'n Wag on Saturday, November 13.  All benefits go towards building our new shelter.  This is a free event, but a pledge of $25 will get you an event T-shirt, and a pledge of $35 and over will get you a t-shirt and a bandanna for your pup.

Walk 'n Wag is Yuma's premier canine fund-raising event, where four-legged entrants participate alongside their two-legged partner to raise money for Yuma's new animal shelter.  After the three mile walk/run there will be festivities featuring raffle prizes, pet photo-booth, food, adoption fair, micro- chipping, and much more! This event will be held at the City of Yuma's Bark Park.  Walk/Run starts at 9 am and registration is at 8:15 am.

If you are interested in registering and/or sending a pledge for this year's event, please visit us at:  hsoyuma.com/walknwag today, and help build Yuma's new animal shelter!

HSOY helps Canteen Dance with ticket sales

Canteen DanceHSOY is assisting the Canteen Dance with ticket sales and will get a kickback for every ticket we sell.  The event, which is done in the spirit of a 1940's-style U.S.O. sponsored dance, will be held at the Hilton Inn on November 20th with dancing, drinks, and desserts.  Buy a $30 tax-deductible ticket through HSOY and $5 will go to the New Shelter Project. A VIP table for $250 includes tickets, desserts, and a dance with the sailor of your choice. Active and retired military get into the event for free. The event benefits the building of a new school and a new shelter for Yuma. Want to help kids & animals with a retro night of fun? Call Molly Bowes at (928) 388-4785 to get a ticket while donating to our new shelter. We'll also get a commission for tickets sold at Walk 'n Wag 2010.

Mrs. Doubtfire

Mrs. DoubtfireThis is just one half of a cute duo. Mr. & Mrs. Doubtfire are two cute fluffy poodle mixes. They are both about a year old.  They get along very well with each other and would like to stay together. They were stray, but two happier dogs you'll never meet. They jump up with great excitement to see each visitor. They need a home of their own.
