Fall Adoption Fair at PetSmart next weekend.

FALL ADOPTION FAIRThe Humane Society of Yuma will be holding their Fall Adoption Fair at the Yuma Palms Petsmart on Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12. The Humane Society of Yuma will be bringing all adoptable dogs to PetSmart from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and from noon to 5pm on Sunday.

HSOY's adoption fair will be one of hundreds across the country held as part of Petsmart Charities' Second Chance for Love National Adoption Weekend. Nonprofit PetSmart Charities is the largest funder of animal-welfare efforts in North America and a strong advocate for pet adoption.

Since being founded in 1994, PetSmart Charities has led pet-adoption efforts across North America. In fact;
  • During fiscal year 2009, a record 409,613 pets found homes at the PetSmart Charities adoption centers, which are located inside every PetSmart® store
  • Since 1994, more than 4.2 million pets have been adopted at PetSmart Charities' adoption centers in North America. PetSmart Charities celebrated its 4-millionth adoption in January.
  • One pet's life is saved every minute that the PetSmart Charities' adoption centers are open.
  • PetSmart Charities now provides more than $10 million a year in adoption-reward grants to the thousands of animal-welfare agencies it collaborates with through the in-store adoption program.
During the Second Chance for Love National Adoption Weekend, cat and dog adopters will receive free samples from Hill's Science Diet Brand and PetSmart®. In addition, PetSmart Charities will provide increased adoption-reward grants to all participating shelters and rescue agencies; in fact, all agencies will receive $35 from PetSmart Charities for every pet they adopt into a lifelong, loving home in stores between September 6 and September 12.

The Humane Society of Yuma currently transports several adoptable dogs to PetSmart every Saturdays from 10am to 4pm and on Sundays noon to 5pm. Several cats are also kept at PetSmart and are available for viewing and adoption during business hours.

First week of 'Tuxedo Tuesday' bedazzling success.

Shortly after the release of last week's ePaws, we decided to begin  "Tuxedo Tuesdays" in order to celebrate black & white and black cats and to promote their adoption.

On every Tuesday until the as-of-yet unannounced end of the promotion, all black & white and black cats will be available for adoption at half cost.  As the promotion's tagline says, "Why rent a tux for Fur Ball IV when you can adopt one for forever."

And we are very happy to announce that six eligible cats were adopted last Tuesday as part of this promotion.  Four at the shelter and two at PetSmart.

Billie Ciotti's efforts recognized in Yuma Sun

Last Tuesday, the Yuma Sun printed a story recognizing Billie Ciotti's, age 12, efforts to help HSOY.

In addition to spotlighting Billie's tireless fundraising efforts, it tells the story of how she worked hard to find a home for Petey, pictured here, who was scheduled to be put to sleep.

Petey's home ended up being Billie's.  More pictures of Billie and Petey can be found on our Facebook page, on the photo tab.

Sad Charlie

 Charlie

Poor Charlie is trying to put her best game face on for this picture but she's sad.  She was left at the shelter by her owners.  She misses her home.  She has so much love to give and is very friendly.  Please don't overlook the 'older' dogs, as they have already passed through those 'puppy' phases and are easier to train. Please come visit Charlie today!
Foster kittens

 Foster kittens

These four kittens, born at the HSOY shelter, have been lovingly raised by one of our dedicated foster mothers and are now ready for adoption.  There are two girls and two boys in this 14 week old brood. They are (from left to right), Russia, Goliath, Esther and Bear. All interested parties please email Barb Henderson, our foster coordinator, at bhenderson@hsoyuma.com
