Dogs dumped with ticks get tickets on Rescue Express

Tick infestation dogRescuedThere's no doubt about it, the last couple of weeks have been hard ones for us at HSOY.

In order to keep coming back, day after day, you must cherish the success stories.  Fortunately for us and 33 animals (31 dogs and two ferrets), last week ended with a big one.  31 dogs and two ferrets got the "heck outta Dodge" on the Rescue Express on Thursday. This is the second largest number of passengers that have squeezed their way onto the Rescue Express at once.

Among those passengers were the two dogs featured in last week's ePaws.   Dumped at a local park infested with ticks by the end of the week found themselves free of ticks and with two tickets to an all but guaranteed loving, forever home.

Of course, much of the credit goes out to these wonderful rescue groups -- many breed specific, but others who are more accepting of 'blends' such as Finding Fido of Scottsdale who took these precious guys  -- that work so hard to place these dogs in the larger metro areas (in this case, Phoenix).  But the making of a successful rescue is just as dependent upon the tireless efforts of our own staff.

Kittens in backpack

Last Wednesday morning around 9am, an HSOY employee found a pink book bag next to a vehicle at the extreme north end of our parking lot.  As she approached, she heard the unmistakable sound of crying kittens. The book bag had been zipped up entirely and there's no doubt that in the suffocating heat of the book bag - death was imminent.  Watch the following video made shortly after their rescue.

Two dogs die of heat stroke, owners charged

In two separate incidents, dogs have died in the past two weeks of heat stroke after being left outside all day without water and one without the benefit of any shade.  Both owners have been charged with animal cruelty.  Read the full article on the cases in the Yuma Sun

Adoption Success Story:
Toughy finds a new home and a new name

Tough

My son and I adopted this dog in February of this year. He was a victim of animal abuse and he had a scar around his neck. You guys had called him "Toughy" but we call him "Duke." He has been a great addition to our family and we love him dearly. I just wanted your staff who remember him to know that he has a great home. Thank you for all you guys do.
