Dogs found with pervasive tick infestations

Tick infestation dogTick infestationLast Thursday, two dogs were brought to our shelter by a compassionate citizen who had found them wandering around Joe Henry Park, scared and confused. As shown in the photograph, both dogs had major tick infestations and had become quite lethargic due to both the extreme heat and the ticks.

Given their circumstances, it is highly likely that these two small dogs had been dumped at the park by their previous owner. This is at least the third time that we have received animals that had been dumped at local park over the past three weeks.

Pet abandonment is a crime year round but is especially cruel during the excessive heat of Yuma's summers.  Failure to provide veterinary care also surmounts to animal cruelty.

If you have any information on this case, please notify Animal Control at (928) 782-1621.  We will post on Facebook when these dogs will be available for adoption.

Sir Petey, your Knight in Shining Fur

Sir Petey

Ladies, say hello to your Knight in Shining Fur, your Casanova on four legs.  I am three a three year old, neutered male of American Bulldog descent.  I am of athletic build and am considered quite the looker by my female friends. I have a Master in the Arts, in  being housebroke, obeying commands and good manners.

I currently work for treats which I plan to do well into retirement. I am searching for a single female that I will be completely devoted to, and she to me. I am looking to fill the emotional void made when my other family left me here . We parted ways because I was not interested in children or the other male ( two-legged) in the home.  If you are such a gal, give me chance. One shot is all it will take to melt your heart.

P.S. My name is Petey, and I am available for adoption this Thursday at 10am.

Adoption Success Story:  Our cats, Yuma and Lilli

Sisters Yuma and Lilli

Hi Linda,

Here's an update on two kittens that we adopted from you in March, 2010.  They were two sisters originally named Ellie & Amy, but renamed Yuma and Lilli.   We winter in Yuma and spend summers in Lilliwaup, Washington, thus their new names.  They are nearly identical twins. As you can see from the photograph, Yuma (foreground) has a wider white spot on her forehead than Lilli (background) who has a much smaller and pointed white spot.  Lilli also has a white strip on her left ear.  Otherwise, you can't tell them apart.  They are now 7 months old, very healthy, and the love of our lives.  They keep us entertained and, quite occasionally, get into mischief.  But we love them and are glad we made the choice to adopt them.
