First Facebook pet photo contest results

Following a week of our Facebook fans voting for the fan-submitted photo they thought should be featured on our adoption truck, the canine contest was tied between Mojo and Scruffy. While Scruffy won the 24 hour tie breaker, it has been decided that there will be room for both of their mugs.

On the feline side of things, Max and Izzy finished first and second respectively and will also be featured on the adoption truck.

Scruffy was the winning canine in ithe Facebook photo contest.

Kitty litter, towels temporarily removed from wishlist

Two weeks ago, we appealed to our online communities (ePaws, Facebook and our website) for wish list donations of kitty litter and bath towels.  The response was overwhelming. Last week, canned wet food replaced both kitty litter and bath towels as the most urgent need. But as the influx of kitty litter and bath towel donations continues, we have temporarily removed bath towels and kitty litter from our wish list altogether.  Rest assured, every donation will be put to good use; it has simply become an issue of storage space! Thank you, Yuma!
Thrifty threads shine at fashion show

On Sunday, July 18, a sizable audience turned out for Runway with the Animals, a fashion show of thrifty threads held at the HSOY Furniture Thrift Store. The show included members of the HSOY family modeling various thrifty fashions available at our main thrift store behind Audio Einstein's at the intersection of 4th Avenue and 24th Street.

Shelby, daughter of HSOY Director of Operations Annette Lagunas, and staff member Andrea Handley.

Media Pet of the Week
Jurie brings attention to plight of senior pets

Jurie This week's Media Pet is also a member of our Senior Pet Club. This elite club is comprised of shelter pets seven years or older. Jurie is an eleven year old, spayed female, long hair chihuahua.

She was adopted from us when she was eight years old and returned to us last week because she did not do well with the new baby in the home. Sadly, this is the reason many older pets find their way here. Jurie is a great, housebroken, loving girl. She is not fond of being handled by young children.

Please come in and see Jurie and her older friends. These little dogs still have a lot of life left to live, please give them the golden years they deserve. Senior pets have a reduced adoption fee. Jurie will be available first thing Thursday morning after fulfilling her obligations as a HSOY's weekly celebrity ambassador.
