New hours begin June 1st
HSOY will be switching to it's summer hours on June 1st.  The office will be open Tuesday through Saturday  from 9am to 5pm, kennels Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4:30pm.  Summer hours stay into effect until September 31st.
Availability of low-cost spay & neuter increases
After well over a year of long waiting periods for low-cost spay/neuter applicants, the wait time has been greatly reduced (due to, in no small part, to the opening of the off site clinic).  Please apply, or encourage others to apply, at hsoyuma.com/spayneuter today and let's end pet overpopulation.
Children and Dogs Die in Hot Cars

Children and dogs die in hot cars

432 children have died of heat exposure after being left unattended in vehicles since 1998.  While there are no statistics, we can only imagine how many dogs die annually after being locked in cars while their owners work, visit, shop, or run other errands. These tragic deaths, of both children and pets, are entirely preventable.

To remind the community to the dangers of leaving dogs and children unattended in vehicles, the Humane Society of Yuma has put up a billboard on Fourth Avenue highlighting the dangers.

Dogs and cats can't perspire and can only dispel heat by panting and through the pads of their feet. Pets who are left in hot cars even briefly can suffer from heat exhaustion, heat stroke, brain damage, and can even die. Don't think that just because you'll be gone "just a minute" that your pet will be safe while you're gone; even an air-conditioned car with the motor off isn't healthy for your pet.

And if you do happen to see a pet in a car alone during the hot summer months, call the Humane Society of Yuma at (928) 782-1621 immediately.

Introducing Delia

DelilaIntroducing Delia! Delia is a spayed, ten month old, pit bull mix. Delia is a sweet, loving girl. After a nice long walk, she loves to snuggle up and melt into your lap for hugs and love. Destroying stuffed toys in search of that ever-elusive squeaker is her mission.

You may have noticed a rise in pit and pit mixes as media pets. We are overflowing with these breeds. We have selected great dogs to show that adoptability is not be based on breed alone. We are careful to make the best match for the dog and the family. Delia is available Thursday at 11 am for adoption.

Pizza for Pets in June

Round Table PizzaNo, we don't feed our pets pizza. "Pizza for Pets" is a fund raiser  that Round Table Pizza will be holding to benefit Yuma's homeless pets.  On every Wednesday in the month of June, $1 will be donated to the Humane Society of Yuma for every large pizza sold.  There are a total of five Wednesdays in this month, so let's make this fund raiser a success.  We can make a difference in our homeless pet's lives one slice at a time!

Reagan Elementary raises $147,  items for HSOY

Ronald Reagan FundraiserRonald Reagan Elementary School classrooms raised $147 and a number of items from our wish list in the fundraiser we reported on in last week's E-Paws.  Our shelter guests are very grateful for the school's good work.

June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month

Every year, the Humane Society of Yuma joins animal shelters across the country in recognizing June as Adopt a Shelter Cat Month.  June is the cruelest month of kitten season and in hopes of alleviating the tragedy, two cats may be adopted for the fees of a single adoption.

Our cat room is filled with cutest kittens waiting for you to take them and a buddy home.  So take some time this Memorial Day weekend to sit down with your furry children and prepare them for the arrival of more fluffy siblings.
$1,400+ raised through Goodshop and Goodsearch.

Since the late 2008, we have raised over $1,400 just from supporters searching and shopping online as they normally would.

GoodShop.com is an online shopping mall which donates up to 30 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause! Hundreds of great stores including Amazon, Target, Gap, Best Buy, eBay, Macy's and Barnes & Noble have teamed up with GoodShop and every time you place an order, you'll be supporting the Humane Society of Yuma.

GoodSearch.com is a Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the donations add up!

And if you download the GoodSearch - Humane Society of Yuma toolbar, our cause will earn money every time you shop and search online - even if you forget to go to GoodShop or GoodSearch first!  Add the Humane Society of Yuma toolbar
