1,000th dog sent in rescue van
|
Silly Willy, a six year old tea cup chihuahua who had been at our shelter ten days, became the 1,000th dog to "get the heck out of Dodge" on the HSOY Rescue Express.
Increasingly, Yuma's homeless dogs are getting a lifeline thrown to them from breed-specific rescue groups in Phoenix, San Diego and beyond.
Silly Willy was one of fifty chihuahuas that have been sent to Arizona Chihuahua Rescue thus far this year. |
Meet Tami
| Tami Quinlan, our new Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, joins the HSOY this week. Tami and her husband relocated to Yuma in 2000 from Florida where she had been born and raised. She adapted to Yuma immediately and has been here ever since because of the people she has met and befriended.
Over the years, she has worked hard to change the lives of people and animals but nothing to the level of what happens and can happen at HSOY. "It is a cause, not a job."
"Being a professional "volunteer" myself, I believe my amassed life skills, love of animals and people, and my work ethic will allow me to connect with the volunteers that make HSOY great!" |
Meet Boomer
|
Boomer is a 10 month old male Chihuahua mix. This little guy was originally a stray in Texas, and somehow he managed to hitch a ride to Yuma with a family. Boomer is a loving little guy who is great with children and other animals. This pup does not need to be an only pet, and would make a great addition to any family. Could your home possibly be the perfect home for this little Texan? Boomer will be available for adoption at our shelter on Thursday, April 22nd at 11am. Come by and pick this little buckaroo up! |
Shelter gets face lift thanks to Plaza Paint and Elite Painting and Tiling

| HSOY opens up 4 Paws Pantry to assist families in need | With economic hard times still a fact of life, the Humane Society of Yuma has started the 4 Paws Pantry to help families in need with the expense of pet food.
The effort has been spearheaded by Sandy Pikula and Jan Watts.
Sandy says she first got the idea to start the pantry after seeing a segment on The Today Show last December. A boy in Florida had started a pet food pantry when he became disturbed by the number of pets being surrendered to local shelters due to financial difficulties.
Sandy soon recruited Jan and eleven other volunteers to help carry out her vision. That vision will become reality on April 28, when they plan to have their first food distribution.
If providing for your pet has become a financial burden, you can apply for the 4 Paw Pantry's assistance online at hsoyuma.com/4Paws or by calling (928) 782-1621 ext. 350.
Want to help? Drop off new or unused open pet food at the Humane Society of Yuma (285 N. Figueroa Ave.) or call us for pick up at 928-782-1621, ext. 350. |

Be a newsletter sponsor
| |
Did you miss the Spring Issue of Paw Prints, HSOY's print newsletter? Well, that's because there wasn't one. It has been decided to move away from a quarterly print newsletter and towards a weekly electronic newsletter and a semi-annual print newsletter, to be published in early summer and early winter. This will allow us to reduce our mailing and print costs while allowing us to invest more time and attention to the semi-annual publication, all while providing you all with more timely updates electronically.

We would like to provide businesses a chance to increase their visibility and let it be known to the community that they support the Humane Society of Yuma with a newsletter sponsorship,. Sponsorships are $50 and sponsors will be given a 1.9in x 2.39in space. With a mailing list of over 4,000 supporters (all addresses NCOA verified), such affordable visibility makes business sense with the added benefit of knowing your dollars are going to help spread our message throughout the community.
