Meet Shadow
Shadow

Shadow is a gorgeous ten month old, neutered pit bull mix. He was previously adopted out from us when he was just a tiny pup. Sadly, Shadow had to be returned to us due to Landlord restrictions. His family was very sad to depart with this fantastic guy. Shadow already knows many of his basic commands like sit, shake and kiss! Please note that this guys is playful and needs attention, love, and exercise but, really, who doesn't? Shadow is a very willing pup, who is eager to love and be loved in his forever home. Shadow will be available for adoption at our shelter on Thursday at 11am.
HSOY opens up 4 Paws Pantry to assist families in need
4 PawsWith economic hard times still a fact of life, the Humane Society of Yuma has started the 4 Paws Pantry to help families in need with the expense of pet food.

The effort has been spearheaded by Sandy Pikula and Jan Watts.

Sandy says she first got the idea to start the pantry after seeing a segment on The Today Show last December. A boy in Florida had started a pet food pantry when he became disturbed by the number of pets being surrendered to local shelters due to financial difficulties.

Sandy soon recruited Jan and eleven other volunteers to help carry out her vision.  That vision will become reality on April 28, when they plan to have their first food distribution.

If providing for your pet has become a financial burden, you can apply for the 4 Paw Pantry's assistance online at hsoyuma.com/4Paws or by calling (928) 782-1621 ext. 350.

Want to help? Drop off new or unused open pet food at the Humane Society of Yuma (285 N. Figueroa Ave.) or call us for pick up at 928-782-1621, ext. 350.

Be a newsletter sponsor
Did you miss the Spring Issue of Paw Prints, HSOY's print newsletter?  Well, that's because there wasn't one.  It has been decided to move away from a quarterly print newsletter and towards a weekly electronic newsletter and a semi-annual print newsletter, to be published in early summer and early winter.  This will allow us to reduce our mailing and print costs while allowing us to invest more time and attention to the semi-annual publication, all while providing you all with more timely updates electronically.
Newsletter
We would like to provide businesses a chance to increase their visibility and let it be known to the community that they support the Humane Society of Yuma with a newsletter sponsorship,.  Sponsorships are $50 and sponsors will be given a 1.9in x 2.39in space.  With a mailing list of over 4,000 supporters (all addresses NCOA verified), such affordable visibility makes business sense with the added benefit of knowing your dollars are going to help spread our message throughout the community.

Adoption success stories vis-a-vis Facebook
Many of our Facebook fans have posted photos of their adopted children. Just a few of them are reprinted below.  Do you have an adopted child in your life that you'd love to show off? Please share with us!

4 Paws"I adopted the love of my life from the HSOY. I couldn't imagine my life without him! Adopted: July 11, 2009 @ the PetSmart adoption day."
-Andrea Sherre Hernandez

Kofa"We adopted Kofa, (known as Jill when we got her), the first weekend in Feb. She was a Lonely Heart and had been there for almost two months!!! Which blows me away!!! She is the sweetest the cat and if she had her way I am sure she would be petted 24/7.

TacomaWe also adopted Tacoma, known as Kayla from HSOY, in March 2008, right after we moved into our new house. She was 2months old and made a great companion for our Great Pyrenees, who was starting to get a lil lazy! She is great guard dog and family member! I cant believe she was turned in because someone "didnt have time for her." She was a lil rambunctious when we got her, but I think all she needed was a big back yard and doggy pool to play in!!!"
