Meet Gizelle
RileyDirector of Development Erin Sitera introduces this week's Media Pet of the Week, "Hey everyone, meet Giselle a.k.a Little Woman. With legs that reach to the heavens and those big doe eyes, I just had to name this girl Giselle (formerly known as Little Woman). She has the height and stature that would make any super model green with envy. This beautiful girl is a 1 year old Brindle Great Dane mix, and believe it or not came to our shelter as a stray! Giselle walks very gently on a leash and loves to play. She is pretty docile in nature, and loves to give kisses. Giselle will be available for adoption at our shelter this Thursday at 11am. This girl is huge, so make sure that you have the yard and time for her. It is recommended that she goes to a home without small children. She's waiting for her "Furever" home... so let's give it to her!"

HSOY remembered in two individual's memorial requests
The Humane Society of Yuma is honored to have recently been named in the memorial wishes of two longtime Yuma residents who have recently passed on.

Dr. James Paquin passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2010. In lieu of flowers, the Humane Society of Yuma was listed along with the Hospice of Yuma, the Foundation of YRMC - James Paquin and the MD Nursing Scholarship. We extend our sympathies to Dr. Paquin's wife, Jill Caporelli-Paquin, and family.   Jill Caporelli has been a longtime, ardent supporter of the Humane Society of Yuma and a true friend to Yuma's animals.  James' full obituary can be found  in the April 2nd issue of the Yuma Sun.

Robert James passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.  In lieu of flowers, Robert's family requested memorial donations be made to the Humane Society of Yuma. We extend our sympathies to Robert's wife, Sandy, and family.  Robert's full obituary can be found in the March 7 issue of the Yuma Sun
.

Did you miss the Spring Issue of Paw Prints, HSOY's print newsletter?  Well, that's because there wasn't one.  It has been decided to move away from a quarterly print newsletter and towards a weekly electronic newsletter and a semi-annual print newsletter, to be published in early summer and early winter.  This will allow us to reduce our mailing and print costs while allowing us to invest more time and attention to the semi-annual publication, all while providing you all with more timely updates electronically.
Newsletter
We would like to provide businesses a chance to increase their visibility and let it be known to the community that they support the Humane Society of Yuma with a newsletter sponsorship,.  Sponsorships are $50 and sponsors will be given  a 1.9in x 2.39in space.  With a mailing list of over 4,000 supporters (all addresses NCOA verified), such affordable visibility makes business sense with the added benefit of knowing your dollars are going to help spread our message throughout the community.

Editor's note: There's no such thing as too many adoption success stories.  Fortunately for us, Linda, our Adoption Supervisor, receives quite a few.

But all relationships, no matter how wonderful, have issues that come up and have to be dealt with. And the Humane Society of Yuma wants to help you work through them.  If you have a feline in your home that, like Riley, likes to deface furniture and upholstery with his claws, we'd like to share these tips.

RIleyHi Linda,

I got your post card today in the mail. Riley's doing well.  He has another cat to play with, they chase each other around then even torment each other. Plus he has two kids to play with too.

He's a very good cat with some issues, but nothing too bad. He likes to claw things like furniture and people and it's very random but we enjoy and love him very much.

I've sent you a recent photo of Riley and the other photo is of his sister cat Sophie.  We look forward to doing business with you again in the future. if you have any suggestions or ideas to help us with the clawing it would be most appreciated .Riley

Thanks,
Shannon
