Approved Supplier List for Extended Services
A note from DCC Head of Commissioning, Hazel Lymbery:
As you are aware an Approved Provider List for Extended Services was established in 2009/10.
However, with the reduction in public expenditure and subsequent Council restructuring it has not been possible to review or update the List to ensure that providers have maintained the required standards.
In addition the Directorate's current structure is significantly different from that in 2009/10 - the Extended Services Team no longer exists and there has been a reduction in the procuring of services by Children Centres.
Although the time and effort in implementing the List for both organisations and the Council is acknowledged it is with regret that, as a result of the above, I write to inform you that on 27 October 2011 the Children and Young People Directorate's Management Team agreed to discontinue and withdraw the Approved Provider List for Extended Services.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for the work you do in supporting children and families in Derby. |
Potential Compact Breach Resolved
DCC is currently carrying out a consultation of voluntary and community organisations who were unsuccessful in their applications for funding. However, a number of groups who were previously funded by DCC and who did not apply for funding were not included in the consultation process and this was seen as a potential breach of Best Value Guidance by Compact members.
As a result of raising the issue, DCC have reviewed the implications of Best Value Guidance and VCS grants and will be engaging with groups who did not apply for funding. This means that those groups who fall into this category are entitled to the full range of consultation support that has been offered to the groups whose applications were not successful. It also means that they will now be funded for a further six months.
This is just one example of how the Compact can work to a satisfactory conclusion.

Hate Crime and Domestic Abuse Focus Groups
Do you work with people who have you been victims of hate crime or domestic abuse?
The Victims Service Advocate for Derbyshire, Kate Dawe, is looking to speak to victims of hate crime or domestic abuse in focus groups or interviews. The aim is to identify what victims and witnesses want and need from criminal justice agencies and support services, how experiences of crime might differ and to look at how to improve services for victims and witnesses.
The Victim Service Advocate project is a Home Office funded partnership between Victim Support, and the Commission for Victims and Witnesses. The aim is to prepare for the incoming Police and Crime Commissioners who will be elected in November 2012.
If you are interested in taking part in the focus groups or would like more information email Kate Dawe or call 07506 725775. The focus groups will be taking place in December so a prompt response would be appreciated. |

World Class Quality Assurance Workshop
Community Enterprise Derby, in partnership with DCAN, are holding a workshop called 'World-class quality assurance - how to get there and stay there'.
National bodies such as NAVCA have said that there is likely to be a decrease in the amount of funding given out by public authorities in the future and therefore there will be a greater reliance on competitive tendering approaches. Because of this, organisations are increasingly looking towards gaining national and internationally recognised quality standards.
This workshop will tell you all you need to know about quality assurance in relation to tendering for contracts in todays climate.
This FREE session will be held on Wednesday 11 January from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Community Action, 4 Charnwood Street in Derby.
To book a place email training or call Liz Gumbley on 01332 227738. |
