ViewsDCC VCS Funding Consultation

The Council is consulting on future long-term funding for a number of local voluntary sector organisations.

At the 27 September 2011 Cabinet meeting the Council made decisions about the future grant aid allocation for the Voluntary, Community and Faith sector.  These decisions will have an impact on some grant-aided organisations that have been funded by the Council in the past.

Before making a final decision the Council wants to gather the views of the organisations, the service users, public, local agencies and organisations that work with the voluntary organisations affected.  The consultation period will end on 30 December 2011.  The outcome of the consultation will be reported to Cabinet on the 21 February 2012 where a decision will be made on the future funding for these organisations.

To take part in the consultastion and for a list of affected groups and an online questionnaire visit the DCC website.

ArtArtcore Launch Indo-British Art Exhibition

Artcore are launching their Indo-British art exhibition, 'Games People Play', at 5:30 pm on Thursday 13 October at Deda.  The Mayor of  Derby, Councillor Les Allen, will be opening the exhibition, and Paul Brookes, Cultural Olympiad, London 2012, and Rory Slater, Derbyshire 2012 Legacy Coordinator will be the chief guests.

The exhibition will be on from 3 to 29 October from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm Monday to Thursday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Friday and 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Saturday.

The seeds of Indo-British project 'Games People Play' were sown around the same time of London winning the bid and preparing for the Olympics 2012. Simultaneously India was preparing for the Commonwealth Games 2010.  'Games People Play' draws its inspiration from games and sports and is a platform for the artists to portray their perceptions and ideas on sports/games through the arts.

To book your place at the launch email Artcore.

Community EnterpriseBring Back Future Jobs Fund Petition
The Future Jobs Fund, which was scrapped earlier this year, provided young unemployed people with the opportunity of a job for 6 months - often longer if they were kept on by the company they were working for.  Community Enterprise Derby delivered the Future Jobs Fund in Derby and achieved great success placing young people in jobs.

Derby Womens Centre logoSave Derby Women's Centre!
As of March 2012, Derby Women's Centre will no longer receive funding from Derby City Council and there is a definite risk that this will force the charity to close early next year.  Online and offline petitions are currently in place to demonstrate support for their work as part of the consultation process and they would appreciate it if people in the wider community would sign one of these.

Click here to sign the petition.  There is a paper petition at Derby Women's Centre in Leopold Street for anyone wishing to sign in person.  For more information email Derby Women's Centre

surveyQuality Survey
Quality standards in the voluntary sector is an area of continual development to make sure groups and organisations continue to meet the needs of their service users.

Groups and organisations are being encouraged to adopt formal 'quality systems', such as ISO 9001, to show that they are strengthening their groups and organisations and raising their standard of work.  It is also an area that needs to be evidenced to funders.

Additionally, the shift in groups and organisations previously relying on grant aid to now relying on contract payments from public bodies for the provision of specific services has prompted a 'contract culture'.  This has increased the need to set up efficient and effective systems to be accountable and to gain an edge in the competitive tendering process.

To gain an understanding of the current thinking in the voluntary and community sector we are carrying out a survey.  The brief survey consist of five questions and your help would be very much appreciated.

Click here to take part in the survey.  Please note that the survey closes on 27 October.  For more information email David Corrigan or call 01332 227740.
VoteVote for Derby Arts Projects

Derby City Council's Arts Team is bringing arts organisations from across Derby together to raise funds in a new and innovative way to ensure that the city remains a hub of creativity.

From 24 October an exciting range of Derby arts projects will be listed live on the We Did This website, a crowdfunding website that seeks small or large donations for various projects.  Anyone can visit the website, view the projects that they want to see happen in Derby and then make a donation.  Each organisation will aim to get a large number of small (or large!) donations for their individual project. The great thing about each donation is that each person is entitled to a personalised 'reward' associated with the project.

The project will be launched on 27 October at 5:30 pm where there will be a chance to meet the artists and find out a little more about their projects. To register for the special launch night click here.
