Putting the Third Sector First: Annual Networking Event
We are holding our (short) AGM and annual networking event, the largest of its kind, on Wednesday 21 September from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in the Darwin Suite, Assembly Rooms in Derby. Come along and network with voluntary and community groups in Derby - there will be over 60 stands with information and funding advice too!

Lloyds TSB Foundation Workshop
Lloyds TSB Foundation are holding a workshop on Wednesday 14 September from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm at Community Action, 4 Charnwood Street in Derby.
The Foundation are keen to meet with Derby-based registered charities who are potentially looking to apply for grants. The Lloyds TSB Foundation is one of the UK's leading grant-makers, and funds small and medium underfunded charities working at the heart of communities to tackle disadvantage. The awareness session will:
- Highlight the basic criteria of the Community Programme;
- Provide groups with hints and tips on what makes a successful application; and
- Give an opportunity for groups to talk about their own projects and experiences and their eligibility for funding.
Who do they fund?
Registered charities whose core work helps disadvantaged people to play a fuller role in the community.
Types of Work
Running costs, including salaries to ensure that charities can maintain and develop their core work and disadvantaged communities.

Introduction to Social Enterprise
Introduction to Social Enterprise, Thursday 17 November from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Community Action, 4 Charnwood Street, Derby.
Are you an organisation that is heavily dependant on grant funding? Would you like to find out more about the alternatives that could benefit the development of your organisation? If so, this course is for you!
By the end of this session learners will:
- Understand what trading is.
- Recognise the benefits of a social enterprise.
- Have an awareness of how to develop a social enterprise.
- Identify different sources of funding.
There is a small charge for this training session:
£10 for voluntary groups under £10,000 turnover;
£25 for voluntary organisations over £10,000 turnover; and
£50 for statutory organisations.

Big Lottery Reaching Communities Workshop
Thursday 20 October from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Community Action, 4 Charnwood Street in Derby. The Reaching Communities programme has four outcomes:
- People having better chances in life, with better access to training and development to improve their life skills;
- Stronger communities, with more active citizens working together to tackle their problems;
- Improved rural and urban environments, that communities are better able to access and enjoy; and
- Healthier and more active people and communities.

Social Enterprise Investment Fund - Capital Growth Fund
The Social Enterprise Investment Fund (SEIF) Capital Growth Fund has opened. The fund provides capital grants of 50k - 150k for non-profit organisations providing health, care and well-being services. Additional loan funds are available for larger projects or where some working capital is needed.
The Capital Growth Fund is suitable for established organisations (not start-ups) who already have well-developed capital plans for buildings, equipment, IT or similar and who can spend the funds by 31 March 2012.
The closing date for applications is noon on 16 September 2011.

European Social Funding (ESF) Community and Skills Grant 2010-2013 Round 2
We are holding a FREE advice session for the above grant on Wednesday 5 October from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Community Action Derby, 4 Charnwood Street in Derby.
The grants are for:
- Smaller organisations to access ESF (up to £10,000)
- Engaging the 'hard to reach' in learning
- Making the unemployed more work ready
- Improving target communities
Who can apply?
- Not-for profit groups
- Groups with an annual income below £50K
- Groups based in target communities - Derby city (Arboretum, Sinfin, Derwent, Alvaston and Normanton wards), Erewash - Ilkeston, Chesterfield - Rother and Loundsley Green wards, Bolsover - Shirebrook, Bolsover and Elmton and Creswell and Amber Valley - Ironville and Ridding

Derby Youth Opportunity Fund
There is a small amount of funding available (up to £1,000) for voluntary groups or groups that don't receive statutory funding. This funding is for young people in Derby city and the fund priorities are targeted to:
- Cutting local crime and anti-social behaviour and keeping more young people out of trouble.
- Supporting victims of crime and anti-social behaviour.
- Improving school attendance and behaviour.
- Stimulating an interest in voluntary work.
- Helping to strengthen communities.
- Improving the quality of life in your local community.
Preference will be given to projects that:
- Engage a number of people, either as team members or beneficiaries.
- Are part educational, giving the opportunity for youth involvement in making, organising or doing something positive.
- Have an on-going effect or lasting impact.

Homeless Transition Fund
Homeless Link is running the new £20 million Homeless Transition Fund to tackle rough sleeping in England. The scheme aims to protect essential services for single homeless people and support the introduction of 'No Second Night Out'. Funded by the Department for Communities and Local Government, it will award grants of up to £250,000 to protect and enhance essential services for single homeless people.
Who can apply?
Voluntary sector organisations that provide services to single homeless people. Priority will be given to organisations that spend more than 50% of their income on addressing single homelessness. Your organisation must be one of the following:
A registered charity;
A voluntary and community unincorporated charitable association;
A community benefits society registered as an industrial and provident society; or
A community interest company.
What can you apply for funds for?
To help deliver an end to rough sleeping by rolling out the No Second Night principles and other innovations;
To support a smooth transition for existing services to sustainable funding arrangements;
To support strategically critical homelessness services for single homeless people.

The Toy Trust Grant
The Toy Trust is the charity of the UK toy industry. It distributes funds to charities supporting young disadvantaged and disabled children. The Trust supports disadvantaged children (aged up to 13) and their families to address a range of causes, including:
· Alleviate suffering;
· Support children through awful experiences;
· Encourage achievement through adversity;
· Purchase vital equipment;
· Provide care;
· Initiate brand new projects;
· Satisfy basic needs

LandAid
LandAid is a charity established by the UK property industry that helps disadvantaged people access the facilities, skills and opportunities to achieve their potential. The following funds are available:
- Training, Education and Support Fund - from £5,000 to £25,000. Funds training, education or support programmes targeted at disadvantaged young people (16 to 25 years old), this can include NEETS, homeless or those from a low income background. Projects should engage young people and lead to recognised qualifications.
- Capital Projects Fund- from £5,000 to £25,000. Funds refurbishment, conversion, extension or new build of facilities for young people (16 to 25 years old) and disadvantaged people. LandAid especially look for projects that have an education or learning element. This can include hostels, community or youth centres and accommodation. LandAid do not fund salaries and other general revenue costs or projects where work has already taken place.

SITA Trust Enhancing Communities Funding Programme
The Trust has been set up to support community and environmental improvement projects through the Landfill Communities Fund. The Trust provides grants of up to £20,000 for projects that make physical improvements to community leisure facilities and historic buildings. There are a number of funding programmes:
- Enhancing Communities - for community improvement projects within three miles of qualifying waste processing sites owned by SITA UK.
- Enriching Nature - for biodiversity conservation projects within ten miles of any landfill site in England
- Young People's Volunteering Fund- this fund has been created to assist young people aged 14 to 25 to volunteer their time to create or enhance facilities that can be enjoyed by the wider community.

Money Saving Expert Charity
This charity provides grants to individuals and charities. Grants of up to £5,000 are available for projects that assist people to improve their quality of life through knowledge and understanding of how to manage and take control of their own financial situation.
Who can apply? Constituted groups and individuals in the UK over 18

Football Foundation
The foundation is the UK's largest sports funder. Funded by the Premier League, the Football Association and the Government, the Foundation directs £30 million each year into grass roots sport. The foundation funds projects that increase participation in football and other sports and address some of society's key challenges such as social isolation, health, education and inequalities. Their mission is to improve facilities, create opportunities and build communities.
The foundation currently has the following schemes:
- Grass Roots Facilities Fund (over £50k grant request)
- Building the Game (under 50K)
- Football Stadia Improvement Fund
- Fan Fund
- Premier League Community Facility Fund
- Extra Time

Woodward Charitable Trust
The Woodward Charitable Trust is one of the Sainsbury family charitable trusts.
Applications for funding need to fall into the following areas:
- Children and young people who are isolated, at risk of exclusion or involved in anti-social behaviour;
- Minority groups including refugees, gypsies and travellers. Projects that promote integration and community cohesion will be favoured;
- Prisoners and ex-offenders. Projects that help the rehabilitation and resettlement of prisoners and/or ex-offenders are supported as well as requests to help prisoner's families;
- Disability projects which can include rehabilitation and training for people who are either physically disabled or learning disabled, as well as help to improve employment prospects;
- Homelessness, especially affecting young people and women, and covering facilities such as women's refuges;
- Arts outreach work by local groups for the benefit of disadvantaged people; or
- Environmental projects, especially with a strong educational element.
Types of Grants:
- Small grants - £100 to £5,000.
- Large grants - over £5,000. Large grants are mainly given to charities already known to the Trustees. Applications will automatically be rejected unless they are discussed with the administrator prior to submission.
- Children's summer playscheme grants - £500 to £1,000. Applications are considered in May each year.

WREN Small Grants Scheme
This scheme awards grants to community and environmental projects across the UK located within 10 miles of a WRG landfill site - which includes Derby. This scheme assists small projects that can make a real difference to their local communities.
Small Grants Scheme - designed to assist applicants looking for funding for small projects that can make a real difference to their local communities. Criteria includes:
· Apply for funding of between £2,000 and £15,000 with a total project cost
of under £50,000;
· Be completed within 12 months of the funding decision; and
· Be situated within 10 miles of a Waste Recycling Group landfill site.
Main Grant Scheme - WREN can fund a wide range of projects under Objects D of the Landfill Communities Fund. Funding of between £15,001 and £50,000 is available for the provision, maintenance or improvement of a public park or other public amenity in the vicinity of a landfill site.
Biodiversity Action Fund - this is an annual programme of funding designed to deliver projects under Object DA of the Landfill Communities Fund. It will provide up to £10 million spread over 5 years to fund biodiversity enhancements by supporting the expansion, recovery and conservation of habitats.

Inspired Facilities Fund - Sport England
Tired, worn out facilities make it harder for people to be inspired to start or keep doing sport. This fund helps to refurbish or upgrade your sports facility or convert an existing building into a venue suitable for sport and accessible to the whole community. The fund will invest in most types of improvement or refurbishments that will support organisations to develop sport. To qualify for a grant you will need to:
- Show how your project will keep and attract more people in to sport ;
- Demonstrate that it is needed and wanted by the local community; and
- Explain how it will cover its running costs and remain open for sporting use for years to come
The fund is looking for projects that:
- Have not previously received any individual sports Lottery grant worth £10,000 or more;
- Offer local opportunities to people who do not currently play sport; or
- Are the only public sports facility in the local community.
The first round of funding runs from 1 August to 28 September 2011. The fund is ideal for small community groups who might have previously been put off from applying for public money. Heart Research UK
Healthy Grants of up to £10,000 are available for new, original and innovative projects that actively promote Heart Health and help to prevent or reduce the risk of heart disease in specific groups or communities.

Peter Harrison Foundation
Opportunities through Sport - applications are accepted by charities throughout the UK. The trustees wish to support sporting activities or projects that provide opportunities for people who are disabled or otherwise disadvantaged to fulfil their potential and to develop other personal and life skills. Grants will often be 'one-off' grants for capital projects. They will also consider revenue funding for a new project, or if funding is key to the continuing success or survival of an established project. Projects funded:
· Provide a focus for skills development and confidence building through the
medium of sport;
· Provide a strong training and/or educational theme within the sporting activity;
· Provide sporting equipment or facilities for disabled or disadvantaged people;
· A high degree of community involvement; and/or
· Help to engage children or young people at risk of crime, truancy or addiction.

The Act Foundation
Provides grants to individuals and other charities with the aim of enhancing the quality of life for people in need - specifically mentally and physically disabled people. The grants range from £100 to £4 million.
Grants fall into the following areas:
- Building - funding modifications to homes, schools, hospices etc;
- Equipment - provision of specialised wheelchairs, other mobility aids and equipment including medical equipment to assist independent living; and/or
- Financial assistance - towards the cost of short-term respite breaks at a registered respite centre.
The Act do not make grants:
- Which would replace statutory funding;
- Which would pay for work that has already commenced or equipment already purchased or on order;
- Towards the operating costs of other charities except in connection with setting up new services;
- To charities that have not been registered for at least three years;
- For projects that promote a particular religion or faith; or
- To local authorities
