trainingSafeguarding Vulnerable Adults Training 

Target audience:

Professionals from health and social care agencies.

Police, Fire, Ambulance and Probation Services staff.

Independent provider staff.

Voluntary sector staff.

Advocacy Organisations.

Members of the public - users of services, families and carers.

 

Learning outcomes include:

To provide staff with an awareness of the Derby Safeguarding Procedures.

Definition of a vulnerable adult.

Categories of abuse.

Identify signs of abuse.

Know how to deal with immediate incidents/disclosures.

The alerting and referral reporting processes.

trainingJust Whistle - Tackling Child Sexual Exploitation  

Just Whistle, part of Safe and Sound Derby, provide facts and knowledge to help fight child sexual exploitation - CSE - though training courses, consultations and conferences.

A new Government action plan to tackle the sexual exploitation of children is under development but will include: raising awareness and undertanding of CSE; promoting early detection; effecting better prevention; supporting victims; and prosecuting perpertrators.

 

Just Whistle is running PPI (Prevention, Protection and Investigation) training courses that will help people working with children, young people and families to address these priorities in accordance with the new national action plan.  The

course will be held locally in Nottingham on 29 September. Venue to be advised.

InformationGet Involved Derby!

Get involved Derby is a FREE workshop on the work of the UK Parliament with advice and information on how to engage with MPs and Lords. This event will focus on how to campaign effectively to make a difference.

 

The workshop will be held on Monday 11 July from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at JET, 284-286 Normanton Road, Derby DE23 6WD.

 

The workshop will cover:

 

· The role of Parliament

· Select committees

· Legislation

· Questions and debates

· Accessing useful information

· Methods of effective campaigning

Headway, the brain injury association, are holding a black tie and diamond charity ball at Derby County Cricket Club on 16 September at 7:30 pm.  Tickets can be bought individually at £47 or in tables of ten at a cost of £450.

Find out how social media tools can help your communications! Purple Zebra are running a series of FREE workshops to help infrastructure and support organisations make the most of social media websites and pass on this knowledge to the groups and communities they support. 

Topics include:

  • What is social media.
  • How is it relevant to my work.
  • Examples of use by other organisations.
  • Why it's important to have a social media plan.
  • Websites to help with communication, fundraising, collaboration and productivity.
  • Ideas to improve effectiveness of your work and work with groups.

The course will be held on Wednesday 20 July from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at Nottingham Voluntary Action Centre, 7 Mansfield Road in Nottingham.

PlaydayPlayday

Playday is the national day for play in the UK, a celebration of children's right to play and a campaign that highlights the importance of play in children's lives.  Playday this year takes place on 3 August and Derby's Playday will be held in Osmaston Park from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm.  It promises to be a great FREE family fun day with lots of activities and fun things to do.

InformationFREE Breakfast Seminar

Actons Solicitors are holding a a FREE breakfast seminar for charities and not-for-profit organisations on 13 July from 8:15 to 10:00 am in their offices at 20 Regent Street, Nottingham.  The topic of the seminar is the Basics of Employment Law and Data Protection.

 

Employment Law obligations for charities are no different to that of a large business. Being an employer, even of one employee, brings with it the full obligations of complex employment legislation. Derby Women's Centre are holding a coffee morning on 13 July from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The theme of the morning will be 'A Celebration of Ramadan and Eid - the culture and experience'.

trainingCommunity and Youth Work Course

Study BA (Hons) Applied Community and Youth Work at the University of Derby and you'll be studying a course which will help you to understand and tackle issues in society today.

 

The course has been rated 'excellent' by the National Youth Agency, the highest category they can award and includes three work placements so you'll have the opportunity to put your knowledge into practice, which will prepare you for a career in youth work or broaden your experiences if you're already working in the sector. Former graduates have gone on to work in youth and community centres, hostels for homeless people, or projects as diverse as drug misuse, youth arts or asylum seeking.

 

On this course, experience counts for a lot so if you're already working in the community but don't necessarily have formal qualifications, please get in touch. For more information visit the University of Derby website or call 01332 591843.

Derby County in the Community are holding weekly disability football sessions for young people aged 16 and above.  The sessions start on Saturday 23 July and run from 12:30 to 2:30 pm - sessions cost £3.00 each.  No need to book just turn up and play!

Get goingGet Going - Live! 
Get Going Live is an event for young people and learner drivers with disabilities. The event takes place on Saturday 13 August at The Launch Pad, Donington Park, DE74 2RP from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

There will be an opportunity to:

  • Test drive a range of adapted cars.
  • Experience all-terrain mobility vehicles.
  • Enjoy the thrill of accessible 4x4, skid cars and much more!
  • See how far you can go on our all-ability climbing wall.
  • Get advice and information from mobility experts.
A limited number of free stand spaces will be available at the event for relevant organisations, in the fully accessible Launch Pad venue. If you would like to find out more about taking part and possibly having a stand at this event, or for any other enquiries email Sally Roe.
