Voluntary Sector Leadership Group Elections
The Voluntary Sector Leadership Group aims to improve the position of the voluntary and community sector in Derby, to ensure a thriving sector that meets the needs of the communities of Derby. Each year elections are held for four places on the Voluntary Sector Leadership Group with two of these places also providing two members to represent the voluntary and community sector on the Derby City and Neighbourhoods Partnership (DCNP) Leadership Board (Previously DCP Board).
The election process starts on Friday 10 June and the closing date for nominations is Friday 24 June. Candidates can be self-nominated but will need to confirm they have the support of their group/organisation.
Each nominee will have the opportunity to speak at the Voluntary Sector Forum meeting on 5 July when the voting will open. Only one ballot paper per group/organisation will be counted and the closing date for the completed ballot forms is 12:00 pm on 19 July.
To download a nomination pack visit the Community Action website or for a hard copy email Kath Cawdell or call 01332 227733. |

Voluntary Sector Grant Aid FAQs On 18 May, Derby City Council held two Grant Aid Funding Application Workshops. As a result of questions raised by people attending the workshop DCC has created a FAQ document which can be found on the DCC website.

Derby City and Neighbourhood Partnership
In April 2011 Derby City Partnership became part of the newly formed Derby City and Neighbourhood Partnerships. This follows the merging of the Derby City Council teams that have historically supported Derby City Partnership, the Community Safety Partnership and neighbourhood management. The three sections are now together under one Director, Karen Johnson - formerly of the Community Safety Partnership - and will all be based on the 3rd Floor of St Peter's House. The joining together of the three sections provides opportunities for closer working, particularly for delivering The Derby Plan at a neighbourhood level.

The Voluntary Sector Calendar
Want to keep up to date with events, training, fun days, workshops - in fact anything that's happening in the voluntary and community sector? Then visit the Community Action website!
The interactive Voluntary Sector Calendar is packed with events and training - you can add your organisation's events too! We hope that the Voluntary Sector Calendar will become the place to go to find out about what's going on and when. It will also be useful as a planning aid and hopefully prevent large events being scheduled for the same day. To get started click here.

Community Classifieds
Do you have any services or resources that you would like to share with other voluntary and community groups? Spare furniture or equipment? Training or advice? Or is there something you need? Or would like to swap?
We have created a Community Classifieds section on our website as one-stop shop to offer and request support and services, resources and equipment.
As the community classifieds section grows we will have sections for 'we want', 'we've got' and 'let's swap'. So, if you have anything you would like to share, swap or give away email Jayne Williams or call 01332 227749.
We look forward to matching up groups and services! |

Nominate a Torch Bearer!
There are less than two weeks left to nominate someone special to carry the Olympic Torch into Derby.
Last month the city heard that the Olympic Torch will visit Derby as part of a 70-day relay tour of the UK ahead of next year's Games. It is fantastic news which will put Derby in the global spotlight - with the wider public, businesses and stakeholders across Derbyshire.
Organiser LOCOG - the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games - is looking for 'inspirational people' who have made a contribution in their community as part of the Moment to Shine campaign. The deadline for entries is 29 June.
To nominate a torchbearer through the Moment to Shine campaign visit the London 2012 website. You must be aged 12 or over at the time of nomination and have the permission of your nominee. |

Barrier Busting in Your Community
You might be a community member who feels there is unnecessary bureaucracy preventing your community achieving what is needed in your area or you might be from a local Council and experiencing unnecessary regulation or restriction in carrying out your work. If so the Government wants to hear your ideas to make your local area better.
For more information visit the Barrier Busting website. |
Need a Team of Willing Volunteers?
Could your service users use a team of volunteers for the day? We often have requests from local companies organising team volunteering days for their employees - usually for one day - to help the community in some way. It could be gardening, decorating, helping out with an event - all suggestions considered!
If you have any projects that you need help with please email Simon Hancox or call 01332 227718. |
