Community ClassifiedsCommunity Classifieds

Do you have any services or resources that you would like to share with other voluntary and community groups? Spare furniture or equipment? Training or advice?  Or is there something you need? Or would like to swap?

We have created a Community Classifieds section on our website as one-stop shop to offer and request support and services, resources and equipment.

As the community classifieds section grows we will have sections for 'we want', 'we've got' and 'let's swap'. So, if you have anything you would like to share, swap or give away email Jayne Williams or call 01332 227749.

We look forward to matching up groups and services!

NCSNCS - 'Summer of a Lifetime'
Does your group work with 16 year-olds looking for a challenge and a 'Summer of a Lifetime'? Then read on!

The National Citizen Service (NCS), the Government's new programme for young people, starts on 18 July and runs for 6 weeks over the summer until 2 September. The 60 young people who take part will experience 2 residential stays, be involved in social action projects, volunteering, a graduation event and benefit from guest speakers, including Olympic athletes from the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, a partner in the programme. Over the six weeks programme the participants will gain experience in a range of activities, build confidence, gain recognition for their commitment, meet new people and have lots of fun!

Community Action Derby are delivering the programme in Derby, so if you work with year 11 school leavers who you think may be interested in getting involved  please email Thom Kellogg for more information or call 01332 227736 or 07792 733639.

Hands up smallCalling All Volunteer Managers and Co-ordinators!

Volunteer Centre Derby would like to come and visit you!  The team can help you review your volunteering programme, help you consider other ways of recruitment and support, and pick up on any best practice tips you may have to share with other organisations.

The team has been out to see a number of organisations recently, one being Derwent Stepping Stones who in 2009 decided that they would like to introduce a volunteer programme to help them support members of the local community more effectively.  The Volunteer Centre helped with templates for documents and advice on policies and best practice with continual updates to help them develop their service.

To arrange a visit email Simon Hancox  or call 01332 227718.

surveyFunding Cuts and Equality Groups

More than 60% of voluntary sector workers are worried about funding cuts according to a survey by the trade union, Unite.  How is this affecting organisations representing different equality groups in different parts of the East Midlands?

The Regional Equality and Diversity Partnership - REDP - is carrying out a survey and ask you to spare a few minutes to tell them what is happening in your organisation. The resulting report will be published on the REDP website and fed through the English Regions Equalities Network (EREN) to the Government Equalities Office (GEO) in order to influence consultations and decisions that impact upon equality.

To take part in the survey click here

trainingHow to Show the Impact of Your Group's Activities - Basic Level

By the end of this session, learners will:

Understand what outcomes are

Recognise the difference between outcomes and outputs

Identify different methods of monitoring activities
