Recruiting Volunteers - Basic Level
Are you having difficulties recruiting volunteers for your project?
Would you like to know what attracts people to volunteer? Come along and find out!
By the end of this course learners will be able to:
Identify the key elements of a volunteer task/ role description.
Recognise what attracts people to volunteering opportunities and tailor publicity accordingly.
Recognise barriers in recruitment and consider creative ways to address them.

Become a Voluntary Sector Leader
Would you like to become a voluntary sector leader? If so the deadline for nominations is fast approaching! Successful nominees will join the Voluntary Sector Leadership Group and have the opportunity to represent the sector on the new Derby City and Neighbourhood Partnerships Leadership Board.

How to Show the Impact of Your Group's Activities - Basic Level
When applying for funding most funders now ask for evidence around the impact that your project will have. This training session will equip you with the necessary skills to be able to evaluate the projects you manage more effectively and show funders the impact their funding has made to the beneficiaries and the wider community.
By the end of this session, learners will:
Understand what outcomes are.
Recognise the difference between outcomes and outputs.
Identify different methods of monitoring activities.

Money Making Ideas - Basic Level
Do you find it difficult to raise money for your group? Do you want to organise an event but not quite sure how to do this? If so, this session is for you!
By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
Understand the importance of fundraising.
Think of ways of bringing money into the group rather than relying on grant funding.
Complete a risk assessment form.
Recognise what is involved in planning for a fundraising event.

Awards For All Workshop
Matt Rowe from the BIG Lottery will be delivering a FREE workshop aimed at voluntary organisations that are already in the process of applying for funding or who are thinking about applying. The aim of this workshop is to give an overview of the new Awards For All programme and to increase understanding of:
· What makes an application fundable.
· What common errors are made and how to avoid them.
· What issues BIG considers when assessing applications so that applicants
can maximise their chances of success.
· What applications should be directed to different lottery distributors.

| Measuring the Difference - FREE Workshop
This workshop is an opportunity for groups working with adults and/or children and young people with disabilities to learn more about Social Return On Investment (SROI).
This one day workshop is for voluntary and community groups to understand and demonstrate the difference their service makes, and to prove their value/worth to funders, commissioners and stakeholders.
The workshop will provide an introduction to Social Return On Investment and its principles and provide practical experience of using the process.

Summer Fair and Pony Pageant
Scropton Riding Centre for the Disabled is holding a summer fair and pony pageant on Sunday 19 June from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at the centre in Scropton just a few miles south of Derby. The centre offers riding lessons to disabled people of all abilities throughout the year.
There will be pony rides, a bouncy castle, riding displays and a bbq and refreshments - something for everyone! For more information email Scropton Riding Centre or call 01283 812 753. |
DAD It's a Knockout!
Dedicated Active Dads - DAD - is a Big Lottery funded organisation made up of fathers and male carers from
across Derby. The group was formed in a bid to spread the word of the great effects an active and influential male role model has on a child's life, both emotionally and academically.
DAD is holding an It's a Knockout event on Saturday 9 July from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at Osmaston Park. As well as lots of fun and games there will be face painting, a bouncy castle and a climbing wall.

Introduction to Autism
This one day course is for people working within health and social care, housing, criminal justice and the voluntary and community sector.
The course aims to increase awareness of autism, provide information and promote positive ways to support people with autism.
The course will be held on 13, 20 and 27 June and 4, 11, 18 and 25 July from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm at Kedleston Road Training and Development Centre, 184 Kedleston Road, Derby DE22 1GT - on site parking is available. To book your place email Alison Gough. |
Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Training
Target audience:
Professionals from health and social care agencies.
Police, Fire, Ambulance and Probation Services staff.
Independent provider staff.
Voluntary sector staff.
Advocacy Organisations.
Members of the public - users of services, families and carers.
Learning outcomes include:
To provide staff with an awareness of the Derby Safeguarding Procedures.
Definition of a vulnerable adult.
Categories of abuse.
Identify signs of abuse.
Know how to deal with immediate incidents/disclosures.
The alerting and referral reporting processes.

Emergency Services Day
As part of 'Inspiring Derby 2011' the emergency services in Derby are holding a big event in the Market Place on Saturday 25 June from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Come along and learn all about the amazing work the emergency services do. There will be crime scene investigation, police dogs, helicopters, ambulances - old and new, a 'smoke house' and armed response vehicles on display. In total around 40 stalls!
