Community Classifieds
Do you have any services or resources that you would like to share with other voluntary and community groups? Spare furniture or equipment? Training or advice? Or is there something you need? Or would like to swap?
We have created a Community Classifieds section on our website as one-stop shop to offer and request support and services, resources and equipment.
As the community classifieds section grows we will have sections for 'we want', 'we've got' and 'let's swap'. So, if you have anything you would like to share, swap or give away email Jayne Williams or call 01332 227749.
We look forward to matching up groups and services! |

The Voluntary Sector Calendar
Want to keep up to date with events, training, fun days, workshops - in fact anything that's happening in the voluntary and community sector? Then visit the Community Action website!
We have recently created an interactive calendar of events that you can add your own events to. We hope that the Voluntary Sector Calendar will become the place to go to find out about what's going on and when. It will also be useful as a planning aid and hopefully prevent large events being scheduled for the same day. So to get started click here.

JustTextGiving
The mobile phone provider Vodafone and the donation website JustGiving have launched a new service that will enable all UK registered charities to raise money through text donations for free.
The new JustTextGiving service, will allow charities to set up text message fundraising for free and collect donations without any commission or charges being taken off. Smaller charities in particular have often found the associated costs of using text donation services prohibitive but the new service will be free, no matter which mobile phone network the donor uses..
To use the service, a charity must register for a unique code by visiting www.justtextgiving.co.uk. The code will be publicised by the charity, inviting donors to text donations. The text message must contain the unique charity code and the amount the donor wants to give, and be sent to 70070. There are also plans to launch the service to all individual fundraisers from 20 June.
For more information visit the JustTextGiving website.

Women and BME Groups and the European Social Fund
Charities working with women and ethnic minorities will now be eligible for funding via the European Social Fund (ESF), under a new agreement laid out by the fund's operator, the European Economic and Social Committee.
The fund, set up to improve standards of living and employment opportunities in Europe, will now list ethnic minority and women's groups among their priority groups to fund. Charities will also be eligible for financial and technical support in order to build capacity.
The ESF has distributed £3.3bn in grants to voluntary organisations since the launch of its 2007 to 2013 programme. This new structure will apply to the funding from 2013 to 2020.

The End of PATCH
PATCH - Play at the Community House - was set up with the aim of giving children from all backgrounds and abilities access to quality play experiences in a safe, welcoming environment. Unfortunately funding for PATCH ceased on 31 March 2011 and that charity has been maintaining services through reserves. Although they have had some generous donations in the last few months they have been unsuccessful in obtaining any grant funding. Consequently, with effect from 1 July 2011, PATCH wil be dissolved resulting in the end of all service delivery and staff redundancies.
PATCH has been operating since May 2002 and over the past 9 years has gone from supporting a small number of families in the local community to expanding their services on a much wider remit. They currently have 120 regular children attending their services and a staff team of 18 which includes volunteers.
The Management Committee would like to thank all staff, volunteers, children, parents, carers and external agencies for supporting the success of PATCH for almost a decade. If you would like to discuss anything further email Amy Fletcher or call 01332 204895.

Shining Stars - a reminder
A reminder that National Volunteers Week - 1 to 7 June - is creeping up fast. The week plays a huge part in raising the profile of the millions of volunteers who regularly contribute to society, while inspiring others to get involved too.
Community Action has supported Volunteers Week for many years. This year the Volunteer Centre team based at Community Action will be holding a Volunteer
Co-ordinators Forum (VCF) with a difference.
We will be holding a 'shining stars' event at DEDA on Wednesday 1 June 10:00 am -12:00 pm. The aim is to recognise the fantastic commitment and contribution made by some of your project volunteers whilst also setting the scene for some shared learning about volunteering in Derby.
We do hope you and some of your volunteers will be able to come and take part in what has historically been, and what will continue to be, a celebration of local people all keen to help out within the community. It's so important that these unsung heroes receive the recognition they so rightly deserve and events like this can really help to raise the profile of volunteering and inspire more people to get involved.
To book a place email Simon Hancox or call 01332 227718 by 18 May.
