InformationLaunch of Derby United Credit Union

A credit union that will offer the people of Derby safe local savings and low cost loans was officially launched at the Council House last week.  Derby United Credit Union (DUCU), formerly the Derby West Indian Association Credit Union, was  founded 30 years ago.  In June the Financial Services Authority approved the organisation's change of name to Derby United Credit Union and the extension of its membership to anyone living or working within the Derby city boundary.

Derby United Credit Union offers an ideal solution for people who don't have access to traditional sources of credit or bank accounts.  Credit unions get people into the habit of saving regularly and, after 12 weeks of membership low cost loans can be provided.  DUCU's interest rates are much lower than those charged by door step lenders and loan sharks.

DUCU's main office is on Whiston Street in Derby, but they will be opening a stall in the Eagle Market to provide a more convenient location for members.  Anyone interested in joining or volunteering with DUCU or volunteering should call 01332 369641.
