Hello!

Welcome to another packed issue of Reach Out!

In light of the Comprehensive Spending Review DCC have issued figures (see below) of the overall cut in their budget but it is not yet clear how much this will affect voluntary and community groups.

The Community Action Annual Survey is being carried out over the next few weeks - please take the time to respond to this short survey as the outcome will help influence the direction of support services in the city as well as help with Community Action's work planning for 2011.

Don't forget to check the Community Action website for the latest news, events and updates for voluntary and community groups in Derby.

If you have any news, information or events that you would like to share with the voluntary and community sector in Derby, please let us know.

Want to keep track of what we are doing? You can now follow us on Twitter - just type DerbyCA into the search box. Visit the Twitter website to get started!

InformationCity Council Warns VCS to Expect Cuts
Cllr. Harvey Jennings, Leader of Derby City Council, wrote to all voluntary and community groups who receive funding from DCC this week putting them on notice.  Cllr Roy Webb, Cabinet lead for the VCS provided a little more information at the Compact Annual Review meeting on 1 November.  He explained that, "the Council has to cut 14.2% out of its total budget for 2011-12, 7.1% in 2012-13 and a further 7.1% in 2014 -15".

It is not yet clear what impact this will have in relation to the VCS budgets, Cllr Webb said "We're not ruling anything in or anything out."  Following the Compact Annual Review meeting Cllr Webb had an early meeting with VCS Compact Forum members, and a meeting of the full Compact Forum has been called for 11 November just to look at this issue.

Voluntary and community groups are being asked to contact their grants coordinator at DCC if they have any queries, but if you would like further information please email Matthew Allbones or call 01332 227721.

Protest Against the Cuts
Derby Trade Union Council strongly believe that the government cuts are not necessary. They believe that the cuts will destroy jobs in the public, private and voluntary sectors and worsen the conditions of work for those still employed.

The voluntary sector in Derby will be badly affected.

A protest has been organised to take place outside the Council House on Wednesday 17 November from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, so why not go along and make your voice heard?  For more information email Moz Greenshields or Keith Venables.
