O2 It's Your Community Awards
Grants of up to £1,000 are available to local groups and individuals to support projects that bring people together and benefit the community.
From September onwards the grants will focus on youth with grants split into four categories; Rebuild and Restore, Cultural, Active and Green and Clean. There are no application deadlines and the outcome of applications will be decided within a month. To apply visit the It's Your Community website.

Walking for Wellbeing
Derbyshire Mind are running a volunteer walk leader training course on Tuesday 13 July from 9:15 am to 4:00 pm. The course will teach you how to: plan and lead a health walk confidently and safely; identify the role and responsibilities of the leader; motivate walkers; and volunteer for a walk scheme. The East Midlands Regional Care Conference is taking place on 15 July - next week! - at Eastwood Hall Hotel, Eastwood in Nottingham. The theme of the conference is Keeping it Personal: How personalisation affects care providers.

Community Cash Awards
The Royal Bank of Scotland Community Cash Awards. £1 million of grants are being distributed by youth charity 'The Prince's Trust' to young people who want to run community projects in some of Britain's poorest areas.
The Awards, worth £250 to £5,000, are available to disadvantaged 14 to 25 year-olds who want to transform their area and learn practical skills. Projects must be run and managed by people between the ages of 14 and 25; clearly benefit the local community; benefit the people running the project; and be a new or developing project.

Volunteering Projects Wanted!
Does your voluntary or community group have any full or half day projects that could be completed by a very willing group of volunteers? We receive quite a few requests from private and public sector companies offering the services of their staff to help out with local voluntary and community groups. Because of the numbers of volunteers involved we are looking for complete projects that would take at least half a day.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Course
The Derby CAMHS Partnership are holding training courses aimed at all frontline staff who work with children, young people and their families. The course aims to increase awareness of mental health and wellbeing and build confidence and competence when dealing with the emotional wellbeing of children.
The course will be held over 2 full days - 9:30 am to 4:30 pm at the YMCA, 770 London Road in Derby. Course dates are as follows:

22 and 23 November 2010
1 and 2 February 2011

Online Disability Toolkit
Derbyshire Disability Action Network (DDAN) is a Big Lottery funded project that aims to raise the importance of disability issues with voluntary and charitable organisations in Derbyshire.
One of their objectives is to produce a web based disability resource tool kit to support voluntary and community groups in raising standards for disabled people in both service provision and employment. They are keen to engage frontline organisations in the design and content of the toolkit and to include locally developed material or examples of good practice. The content of the toolkit will include:
An overview of disability issues including current and forthcoming policy, current challenges and definitions/range of disabilities; practical tools to help organisations better support disabled people they work with, whether as a volunteer, staff member or service user; links to other organisations for advice, support and training; and case examples of how organisations have incorporated issues of disability into their work.

Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Training
Safe and Sound Derby are holding FREE child sexual exploitation awareness training sessions in September. The sessions will cover triggers and indicators; the grooming process; how to make a referral and information sharing.
The course dates and venues are:
8 September from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at The Riverside Centre, Riverside Court, Pride Park in Derby; and
15 September from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm at the YMCA, 770 London Road in Derby.

Future Stars on Big Screen!
Community Enterprise Derby held a premiere last week for the launch of their short film about the success of the Future Jobs Fund in Derby. The film features young people on the scheme who work in all kinds of jobs from farming to administration and everything in between. Local employers and the young people who star in the film were invited to the premiere at The Quad in Derby.

First Steps Coffee Morning
First Steps are holding a coffee morning on 30 July from 10:30 am to 12:00 noon at 126 Osmaston Road in Derby.
Do you want to learn more about First Steps? Or do you simply need a break and want to meet other people? First Steps coffee mornings are a chance to meet like minded people and learn more about First Steps in an informal and relaxed environment.

Summer Rhythms
A festival which brings together colourful live performances, music, dance and vibrancy to Derby's city centre kicks off in style with the Caribbean Carnival and the South Asian Arts Festival this month. Brought together under the festival name 'Summer Rhythms', the two events take place over consecutive weekends, starting with the Caribbean Carnival's street procession on Saturday 17 July and a family day at Osmaston Park on Sunday 18 July. The South Asian Arts Festival continues the Summer Rhythms fever on Sunday 25 July in Derby's Market Place with an outdoor music and dance extravaganza from the world of Bollywood to Bhangra with a twist of urban flavours!
