FREE Surplus Goods
Giving World Online (GWO) is a scheme set up to help community groups and charities access free surplus goods from businesses and organisations whilst at the same time helping reduce the amount of goods sent to landfill.

During the next three months GWO will be engaging with businesses in the East Midlands to encourage them to use GWO's free service to redirect their surplus goods on to charities and groups that could make use of them.

The service is available to all charities and community groups
particularly smaller organisations that are often volunteer-led or operate on very limited funds.

Since the launch of Giving World Online in December 2008 more than £500,000 worth of quality goods have been redirected from landfill to UK charities.

To register to receive FREE goods or list the items that you need visit the Giving World Online website

green earthJoin the Climate Network!
Climate East Midlands, the regional climate change partnership, has launched a new adaptation network to help partners and stakeholders prepare for climate change.  It is an informal regional network that will focus on increasing our understanding of the risks and opportunities that climate change may bring and on sharing examples of good practice and adaptive actions.

Joining the network is free, and open to all.  Members of the network will receive occasional email updates and notification of up-coming adaptation events.  For more information visit the Climate East Midlands website.

moneyLush Grants Available
Grants of up to £10,000 are available from the Lush Charity Pot, set up by the handmade cosmetic group Lush.

Grants of a few hundred pounds to a maximum of £10,000 are available for small grassroots charities, community groups and non-violent direct action groups working in the areas of the environment, conservation, animal protection and human rights.

In the past, nearly all its grants have gone to small organisations with a turnover of less than £250,000 per year.  The company is particularly keen to support projects that create change and aim to get to the route of the problem.  They also prefer to fund project costs rather than core costs, but will occasionally fund salaries.

Applications can be submitted at any time.  For more information visit the Lush website

The benefits and challenges of collaborative working;
Critical success factors involved in collaborative working; and
The policy context which is driving collaborative working.

Hands up smallDeveloping Full Time Volunteering Opportunities
Have you ever thought about developing full time volunteering opportunities?

The vinvolved Derby city team have produced a guide to developing and delivering full time opportunities as this kind of undertaking needs careful planning but can bring great rewards.

Volunteering opportunities generally come in three types:
Short term - one off 'taster' volunteering opportunities;
Part time - ongoing volunteering opportunities; and
Full time - volunteering opportunities for approximately 30 hours a week over 12 weeks.

In the experience of the vinvolved Derby city team, one off short term volunteering and ongoing part time volunteering tend to be more common than full time volunteering opportunities. Volunteering gives people the chance to learn new skills or gain more experience in their chosen field, which is particularly useful in the current economic climate.

For more information or to read the guide to developing full time opportunities visit the Community Action websiteemail Simon Hancox or call 01332 227718.
