Funding Forum
Report 2010/11 |  |
Prepare now and brace for 2011 was one of the key messages coming out of the Future Funding event held by the East Midlands Funding Forum on 9 March in Leicester.
Even though the recession and downturn appeared to be over in the private sector, the view of funders, investors and third sector organisations and infrastructure groups was that there was a bigger downturn expected for the third sector in 2011.

Living Books
National Volunteers Week runs from 1-7 June each year with lots of events and promotional activities to raise more awareness about volunteering locally - what's out there, the impact on the community and how people can get involved.
This year the Volunteer Centre are running Living Books, a series of case studies for volunteers to share their extraordinary stories with the public and to show how important volunteering is to society. Radio Derby will be featuring one case study a day throughout Volunteers Week and the Derby Evening Telegraph will be running a double page spread during the week. Stories for the Living Books project need to have a strong human interest and should fit into one of the following themes:
Volunteering helped me gain confidence;
Volunteering helped me make friends;
Volunteering helped me overcome disability/ill health;
Volunteering gave me skills for employment; or
Volunteering helped me change my direction in life.
So if you, or a volunteer you know, would like to share their fantastic story with others, please email Simon Hancox or call 01332 227718 by Monday 17 May. Please note that the volunteer would need to be comfortable being interviewed by the Derby Evening Telegraph and/or Radio Derby during National Volunteers Week.

Dramatherapy Sessions
Dramatherapy is a form of psychotherapy using creative methods as a form of expression. If you have a keen interest in music, art, drama or movement then this would be ideal for you. Dramatherapy is a very gentle form of therapy using metaphors and images to explore the unconsciousness and give a deeper understanding of why you might be feeling the way you do. It is an effective way to help with eating disorders and other emotional problems.
A 10 week dramatherapy course begins on Saturday 15 May for 10 weeks from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The course costs £10 per session or £90 if you pay for all 10 courses in advance.

Artsplan Youth Arts Course
Artsplan, the training and publications department of Artswork and in-house training provider for ENYAN (English National Youth Arts Network) are holding a one day course 'Creating Safety: child protection and youth arts' on 7 July at Lakeside Arts Centre in Nottingham. This one day course is essential training for anyone working within youth arts, but especially those using more physical art forms, such as dance and drama. Developed in conjunction with South East Dance this course compliments the Arts Council England "Keeping Arts Safe" guidelines developed with the NSPCC. The training will cover current child protection legislation in line with the requirements of the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), within the context of delivering a youth arts project and includes a 'safe touch' section, exploring how child protection guidelines can be maintained within more physical art forms. For more information or to book a place email Artsplan or call 02380 682535. |

PIRAMID Project - What is it?
The PIRAMID project is a partnership between Derby City Council, Derby Primary Care Trust (PCT) and Community Action Derby.
The project is designed to help increase older people's general wellbeing and reduce the risk of inactivity and isolation that can lead to premature, preventable ill health and dependency. The aim is to enable older people to remain independent in their own homes through accessing local community services and being supported to get involved with local groups and activities.
PIRAMID offers support to older people who don't have the social contacts that they once had, are coming to terms with a bereavement, an experience of crime, or recent life changes.
The project is available to people over the age of 50 and living in one of the following neighbourhoods: Normanton; Peartree; Sinfin; Austin; Abbey; Stockbrook; Osmaston; or Allenton.
If you feel this project could help your group or someone you know email the PIRAMID team or call 01332 227720
