VoteNCVO Response to Manifestos
With the launch this week of the three main political party's manifestos the NCVO has responded in terms of each party's commitment to the voluntary and community sector.

The Labour Party manifesto includes:
Plans for a National Youth Community Service, with the goal that all young people contribute at least 50 hours to their communities by the age of 19;
Promote greater public involvement in the way that National Lottery proceeds are spent on good causes. The manifesto also states that the proportion of lottery funding currently diverted to the Olympics will be returned to culture, heritage and sport;
Promote the transfer of buildings and land to the ownership or control of voluntary and community groups;
Pioneer Social Impact Bonds and create social enterprise hubs in every community; and
expand Community Interest Companies and third sector mutual organisations through support from the Co-operative Party, Business Link, enterprise education and the Regional Development Agencies;
a new fund for community ownership in 2010-11 for local pubs and social clubs.

The Liberal Democrat Party manifesto includes:
A commitment to protect free speech and the right to protest, they intend to reform the Public Order Act to safeguard lawful, non-violent protest;
Changing the way the National Lottery is taxed - moving to a gross profits tax; and
Supporting mutuals, co-operatives and social enterprises, through legislative change to bring legal structures up to date.

The Conservative Party manifesto includes:
Restoring the National Lottery to its original purpose, reducing administration costs, and ensuring that 100% of Big Lottery Fund goes directly to the voluntary and community sector;
Sports, heritage and the arts will each see their original allocations of 20 per cent of good cause money restored;
A 'right to bid' to run any community service instead of the state;
A review of the criminal records and the vetting and barring regime, scaling it back to 'common sense levels';
A work programme delivered through private and voluntary sector providers, which will be rewarded on a payment by results basis for getting people into sustainable work; and
Any petition that secures 100,000 signatures will be eligible for formal debate in Parliament.

                                         YAT Celebrate YATSuccess
The vinvolved Derby city Youth Action Team celebrated the successful second year of the project by going out and doing what they do best....... volunteering, followed by an afternoon of Quad Biking in Brailsford.

The YAT started the day by painting the main hall at the Sinfin Community Enterprise Centre. After new radiators were fitted in the hall the walls were looking tired and in need of freshening up so 11 YAT members got to work applying 2 coats of paint in the morning and transforming it into a much cleaner and brighter space. They were kept motivated by plenty of tea, biscuits, Haribos and the talk of the quad biking in afternoon!

Once they had finished at the centre, the YAT grabbed a quick bite to eat before going on to Wildpark Leisure in Brailsford for a Quad Bike Trek. After getting kitted out with all the equipment it was off for a safety talk before starting the 10 mile trek. The trek was an amazing
experience as most hadn't done it before. It included going through fields, streams and woods on the estate. It was a great end to a great day for all the YAT members who attended.
