The Jeffery Tillett Award
Committee members of Derby Pride are very proud and honoured to present the Annual Jeffery Tillett Award. In line with their Mission Statement and in memory of Jeffery Tillett, the award will be presented to acknowledge achievement, work and dedication to the LGBT Community of Derbyshire. The award will also be a celebration of Jeffery's life and work for the LGBT Community. Jeffery Tillett was Mayor of Derby in 1977, the Silver Jubilee year, when the Queen visited and made Derby a city. He was a Conservative member of the Council for 33 years and became its Leader in 1988, the week that Section 28 became law. His signature appeared on a national petition against the new law in The Independent, a story that was covered in the Derby Evening Telegraph at the time. Rather than supporting Section 28, he risked legal action by seeing to it that Derby City Council funded the first Gay Film Festival at Derby's Metro cinema. A festival that has visited Derby every year since. He also founded the Derby CAMRA Beer Festival and City of Derby Community Arts Trust (now QUAD). The award is designed to recognise equality and is open to anyone. Nominations are confidential and the short listed entries will be announced in April 2010. For a nomination form visit the Derby Pride website or call Derbyshire Friend on 01332 207704. The winner will be presented with the award by Councillor Robin Woods at The Inaugural Derby Pride Ball on 8 May 2010 at the Royal Stewart Hotel, Derby. Ticket information for the ball is also available on the website. |
Community Action Annual Survey
Today we have launched the annual Community Action survey. Feedback from the survey will tell us how we can improve the services we offer to the voluntary and community sector and help us plan for next year.
There are two versions of the survey; one for statutory partners and one for voluntary and community groups. To get as wide a response as possible please feel free to forward the survey link to individuals or groups in your networks.
The responses from the survey will form the basis of a series of Focus Groups giving you further opportunity to contribute to the development of Community Action Derby and our continuing representation of voluntary and community organisations within the city.
The deadline for completing the survey is 1 April 2010.
To say thank you for taking the time to complete the survey we will automatically enter you into a prize draw with the chance to win £50 in Westfield Vouchers - don't miss out!
