Future Jobs Fund - Update
Community Enterprise Derby, part of Community Action Derby, has been running the Future Jobs Fund (FJF) for Derby since October 2009.
The fund provides finance for employers to take on young people, 18 to 24 years old who have been unemployed for 6 months (this is a recent change to the previous 9 month minimum) and provide employment for them for 6 months or longer. Young people are referred to Community Enterprise by Jobcentre Plus and are then helped by the Future Jobs Fund team to find the most appropriate job available.
There are currently over 70 vacancies registered with the FJF, in and around Derby, from a variety of local employers including Derby City Council; Derby Homes; Faith Hope & Enterprise; Community Action; Revive; and St James Centre to name but a few. So far Community Enterprise have supported 14 young people into work and have worked with over 150 customers since the scheme started. Due to the success of the Future Jobs Fund, Community Enterprise are now looking for more opportunities for young people looking for work, and not just in the City. Through 3SC, a 3rd Sector Consortium supported by Futurebuilders, they have funding to support 60 vacancies from areas throughout the county. If you are an employer from the public, community or voluntary sector who can offer a post suitable for a young person and can demonstrate community benefit, they can provide the finance to cover your costs and contribute towards any additional supervision costs you incur.
The job must be new, 25 hours per week, be paid at National Minimum Wage and last for 6 months. They also want to hear from you if you are based in the city, as to achieve the goal of 212 jobs within Derby by March 2011 your help is needed!
