Derby - City of Culture 2017?
Derby City Partnership has suggested that
Derby and Derbyshire put forward an expression of interest during 2010 for UK City of Culture 2017 and submit a bid the following year. A joint bid would be a great option for the city showcasing both rural and urban locations and what they can offer.
In the meantime, work will be ongoing to clarify the cultural vision for the next eight to ten years and to develop partnerships within the county and city. To give us your views on this please click

Simplifying
Immigration
Law
The Home Office is seeking views on the draft Immigration Bill, published on 12 November. The proposed new bill will make decision making easier and quicker for the UK Border Agency which will help migrants understand their position in the UK.

Forthcoming Changes to State Pension 
In April 2010, the Government is making a number of important changes to the state pension system.
The changes include increasing the State Pension Age (SPA) for women from 60 to 65 phased in over 10 years; reducing the number of qualifying years needed to get the full rate Basic State Pension (BSP); and giving additional rights to married men and civil partners.

Violence Against Women and Girls
A cross-government strategy has been produced on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). This strategy signifies the first co-ordinated Government approach to combating all forms of violence against women and girls.

Support for Social Enterprise Ideas
 Angela Smith, Minister for the Third Sector, recently announced the second phase of the Office of the Third Sector's £1.3m Social Enterprise Action Research programme. The second phase allows other government departments to explore ways in which social enterprises offer solutions to policy problems. For more information please click here.

State of the Voluntary Sector

Building the Capacity of the Third Sector
The Government has published its response to the Public Accounts Committee's report 'Building the Capacity of the Third Sector'. The report focuses on the Office of the Third Sector's programme, ChangeUp, managed by Capacitybuilders, and the Futurebuilders Fund, managed by the Social Investment Business (formerly Futurebuilders England Fund Management). Age Equality in Health and Social Care
The Department of Health has launched a consultation on preparing the NHS and social care in England for the age requirements in the Equality Bill.
The review was set up to help health and social care meet the ban on age discrimination and the new public sector equality duty in the Equality Bill. The review published its report, Achieving Age Equality in Health and Social Care, to the Secretary of State on 22 October and the consultation paper now invites views on the recommendations and conclusions made that are not directly tied to the legislation. The Growth Network now has two new representatives, Dave Ackroyd from Transition Derby and Rachel Hayward from Community Enterprise. The Safer and Stronger Network and the Culture Network will be selecting their representatives in the New Year. |

Reforming Asylum Support
A Home Office consultation is seeking views on proposals that aim to make the principles of the asylum system clear to all who apply from the outset.  The Financial Services Authority is holding consultations on proposed changes to the way that credit unions are regulated in preparation for new legislation coming into force next year. Response to Adult Social Care Green Paper
In July the Government published the green paper Shaping the Future of Care Together and launched the Big Care Debate. One East Midlands has sent a regional response from the voluntary and community sector to the national consultation co-ordinators.
