Action are holding FREE computer training sessions for people to come along and learn how to navigate around our new website. All our members now have the facility to have their own page within our website so why not come along to this informal, friendly session and learn how to use the site to promote the work your group does. The sessions are held every Tuesday for the next 10 weeks at the Community Action Offices, 4 Charnwood Street, Derby. The sessions run from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Unfortunately our website designers are still having some technical problems and this has meant that some members have received their usernames and passwords while others haven't. We have been assured by the designers that everyone should receive the information by 14 October.

With the onset of winter and the colder weather swine flu has been back in the news. It is very important to be aware of the symptoms and what practical steps you, as an individual, and your organisation can take to minimise the impact. Please visit the NAVCA

Charity Gig! 
Music
First Steps is a charity in Derbyshire supporting people with eating disorders. They will be holding a FREE charity gig this Saturday, 10 October, from 7:30 to 11:30 pm at Ryan's Bar, St Peter's Street in Derby. There will be six live bands and solo artists so why not go along and support this great cause!

PaintCreative Consultation with Young People 
Artsplan, the largest provider of specialist youth arts training courses and publications in the UK, are holding a one day creative workshop entitled 'Creative Consultation with Young People'. The workshop will take place on Wednesday 21 October at Lakeside Arts Centre in Nottingham from 10:00 am to 4:15 pm.
 
This one day creative workshop has been developed in partnership with a range of organisations who have submitted case studies demonstrating creative consultation techniques they have used with young people. The course is therefore suitable for anyone who is looking to consult with young people through engagement in creative participatory activities.

conferenceSafeguarding Vulnerable Adults Conference 2009 
Derby & Derbyshire Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Partnership are holding their annual conference on 13 October at The Arena, Ilkeston from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.
 
The key themes of the conference will be:  
The Dignity Challenge;
Managing the Money; 
No Secrets Review; and 
Commissioning for Safety: Preventing Abuse.
 
Workshops will include:
Offender Health;
Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS);
Victimless Prosecution; and
Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking.
 
The conference is aimed at anyone who works with vulnerable adults.

swimmingSmall Grants from Sport England
The Sport England Small Grants Programme has been set up to support local community sport projects which seek to increase participation, sustain participation or develop opportunities for people to excel at their chosen sport.
For example, they might help a sports club expand its age range by helping it to buy extra team kit or pay additional coaching fees; or they may help youth clubs work together with local sports clubs to get more young people playing sport.
 
Grants are available from £300 to a maximum £10,000.
 
The fund is open to any not for profit club or association, statutory body or educational establishment.

Child Sexual Exploitation
Safe and Sound Derby are holding half-day workshops for people working with children and young people who may be at risk of sexual exploitation. The workshops will cover the grooming process; triggers and indicators; and how to make a referral. 
 
The workshops are FREE and will be held on the following dates:
 
10 November       9:30 am to 12:30 pm
19 November      1:00 to 4:00 pm
9 December        9:30 am to 12:30 pm
17 December      1:00 to 4:00 pm

BIG logoBIG Awards for All
BIG Awards for All England offers grants of between £300 and £10,000 for projects that improve communities and the lives of people within them.
 
Applications are invited from all not for profit groups, parish or town councils, schools or health bodies. The grants range in amount from £300 to £10,000. There isn't a closing date for applications as this is is a rolling programme.

Care debateSkills for Care
Skills for Care invite you to join in their 1000 Voices project which aims to make sure that the voice of 35,000 adult social care employers and 1.5 million workers is heard in the government's Big Care Debate.
 
The Big Care Debate was launched by the Government to find out what the adult social care sector really thinks about the 'Shaping the Future of Care Together' Green Paper announced in July. Skills for Care decided to launch the 1000 Voices project to find out what you have to say about the Green Paper, your participation will inform their response to the document which they will be submitting in November.
 
The Green Paper is a hugely significant document for the sector and Skills for Care want to make absolutely sure that your voice is heard in their submission.

Join in the Fun of Padley GroupPadley Week!
The Padley Group invite you to join them for the launch of Padley Week on Monday 12 October at the Mayor's Parlour in Derby from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Derby Mayor, Councillor Sean Marshall, will be joined by Derby County Manager Nigel Clough and Rammie to 'Kick Start the Week for Padley'.
 
Padley is a Derby-based charity founded in 1985 delivering services to people with complex needs. Padley Week is all about raising awareness of what Padley does in Derby and raising funds to ensure they can continue to deliver and develop front line services.
 
Come and hear all about what is happening throughout the week and hear how you can have great fun and get involved.
 
Join them for tea, coffee, cakes and a raffle, buy some stocking fillers made by their own students and stock up on Christmas cards, also designed by Padley students.
