Community Action Derby logoCould you be a Community Action Trustee?
There are several seats available on our Board. This is partly due to re-election rules and partly because two of our longest-serving trustees have decided to stand down after many years of devoted service. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mark Newey, our Treasurer and Sue Preedy, a previous Chair and Board member.

If your organisation is a member of Community Action and you would like to know more about becoming a Trustee, please contact Kim Harper on 01332 346266, or email. You may find it useful to look at these websites, which give you more information about what being a Trustee entails:

HMCSCommunity Engagement Project
Her Majesty's Courts Service (HMCS) have launched a Community Engagement Project aimed at increasing the awareness and confidence of communities in the work of the magistrates court. The project also aims to raise awareness of magistrates and staff of issues relating to crime and anti-social behaviour that are affecting the community. It is also hoped that the project will help promote volunteering within the criminal justice system thereby increasing involvement from under represented communities.

HMCS are planning a programme of activity in Derby for the coming months and are offering a wide range of engagement activities to groups. These can include presentations to groups about their work, becoming a magistrate, interactive mock courts or visits to the court house.

justice scalesIf you would like HMCS to hold an event for your group, take part in an event or meeting, or contribute to the work of your group in any other way please  email or telephone 0115 955 8136 for further details.
conferencePartnership Conference
One East Midlands (OEM) are holding a Partnership Conference to bring together the Third Sector and partners that co-ordinate volunteering in the East Midlands.

This is a time of dramatic change for volunteering and the Third Sector with several factors impacting on the role of both volunteers and those that co-ordinate volunteers. If you are involved in co-ordinating volunteer activity and you want to see better regional coordination taking place then this is the event for you.

The conference will take place on Wednesday 9 September at the Hallmark Hotel in Derby from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Key note speakers will frame the debate with key issues from a local, regional and national perspective. Delegates will have the opportunity to participate in 3 workshops which will identify regional volunteering priorities and work towards better understanding between Third Sector members and statutory bodies of the specific roles, benefits and issues relating to volunteering. The day will allow delegates the chance to set the focus for the newly revitalised volunteering network in the East Midlands, the EVDC.
