Congratulations to Mackworth Estate Community Association who have opened a charity shop at 6 Drayton Avenue in Derby. The charity shop is believed to be the first of its kind in that it is run by a community organisation, for the community it serves, with all profits going back into the community.

FREE Family Fun Day

Come along to the St Osmund's Family Fun Day this Sunday, 9 August,
in Alvaston Park, Derby. The fun begins at 11:00 am with lots to do for both adults and children. Activities include face painting, bouncy castle and craft stalls to name but a few. The fun goes on until 4:00 pm and it's all FREE!  

 
Health Innovation and Education Clusters
The Department of Health in collaboration
 with strategic health authorities in England wishes to contract for a number of health innovation and education clusters. The contract is valued at £1million. The duration will be 12 months from contract award date.

volunteerWanted: Great Youth Volunteer Projects 
Reward: Up to £10,000 Funding 
Would your organisation like a grant of up to £10,000?
 
Global Charities, in partnership with Global Radio and v, the youth volunteering charity, are looking for community organisations that can create projects to inspire 16 to 25 year olds to volunteer.
 
Your innovative ideas will give young people the opportunity to experience volunteering while helping the community and your organisation. The grants will be distributed across England to a diverse range of projects that deliver volunteering opportunities for 16 to 25 year olds. This may include supporting other people in your community, delivering sport workshops, or assisting in media, music or arts projects. 
 
To be eligible for this funding volunteers must be aged 16-25 and the project must be in England and delivered before May 2010.

A great opportunity has arisen for an individual, company, organisation or social enterprise to equip and manage a new cafe and/or gym facilities at the Hub in South Normanton. Your organisation, should have the skills and experience to deliver cafe and/or gym services to 100 staff and an estimated 100,000 visitors each year.

An information day will be held on Tuesday 15 September from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the South Normanton Community Centre, Market Street, South Normanton. At the information day you will be able to meet the project team who will answer any specific questions you may have. EHRCTenders Invited for Exciting Project
The Equality and Human Rights Commission are inviting tenders to deliver an exciting £24,000 capacity development project for the East Midlands region.
 
The aim of the project is to map the work being undertaken by voluntary and public sector partners within the region with regard to child poverty. In addition the project will bring appropriate partners together to form a regional forum looking at child poverty from an equality and human rights perspective.

The Right to Control
The Office for Disability Issues (ODI) has launched a consultation to ask disabled people how to make choice and control a reality in their lives. The consultation, launched on 11 June, invites stakeholders to give their views on the best way to deliver the Right to Control.

The ODI encourages responses from disabled people, their organisations, public bodies, commissioners and service providers. The consultation runs from 11 June to 30 September 2009. For more information please visit the website

Communitybuilders£70 Million Communitybuilders Fund
The new £70 million Communitybuilders Fund aims to deliver empowered, cohesive and active communities by investing in the sustainability of multi-purpose, inclusive, community-led organisations. It provides a mix of loans, grants and mentoring support to a range of community-based organisations across England.
 
The programme will be delivered by The Adventure Capital Fund in partnership with Futurebuilders England and the Community Alliance (Development Trusts Association, bassac and Community Matters), on behalf of Communities and Local Government (CLG) and the Office of the Third Sector (OTS).
 
You can register your interest in applying for funding by calling the Communitybuilders dedicated telephone line 0191 261 5200. You will not be required to provide full project details at this stage. Further information can also be found on the website

Disability DirectCalling All Disabled Entrepreneurs
Disability Direct have announced an exciting project to support disabled entrepreneurs either start up or develop succesful business ventures.   

The project will be delivered from The Disability Direct Enterprise Centre (DDEC), a building recently purchased and refurbished on Pride Park. Ten workshops/office units will be available, tenants will benefit from a staffed reception area and clerical support - all in addition to the range of business support services offered either in house or via organisations such as Business Link.

Funding for the project has been provided by the European Regional Development Fund; East Midlands Competitiveness Programme; East Midlands Development Agency; and Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership.
mythsKnow Any Good Stories?
As part of their Art and Participation season, Quad are creating a resource of short written records of local myths, stories, and legends. The collection will be entitled 'Customs and X-Files (hidden stories)' and your help is needed! Quad are asking you to use your knowledge and imagination to write up to 50 words on a postcard in one or more of the following categories:
 
Urban Myths
An urban legend, urban myth, or urban tale is a modern folk story. Urban legends are not always false, but they are often exaggerated over time. 
Have you heard of a story like this or can you create a new myth?
 
Quad Myths
You may use your imagination to create a myth all about QUAD, for example are there any mysterious things that may have happened there?
Can you create a story about it?
 
Rural Legends
A story about mythical or supernatural beings or events set a long time ago.
Have you heard of a local legend or can you create a one?
 
Customs
Customs are traditions taught and passed on from one generation to the next.
Can you make up a new tradition?
Rumours
A rumour is a piece of information that is not accurate usually spread by word of mouth.
Have you any rumours you can share?
 
Ghost Stories
Have you heard of any creepy, scary stories than you can share with us?
 
Sports that didn't make it into the Olympics
You can write about an imaginary sport or a lesser known sport that you think merits a place in the Olympics.
 
QuadAll stories must be hand written directly onto blank library reference cards that can be supplied on request by QUAD.  Alternatively text can be typed and stuck onto cards if you wish. All entries will be used in the exhibition which takes place from 19 September to 15 November 2009.
