The Sathi Group, founded in 2002 for Sikh couples, recently secured funding of £4000 from Awards For All. The lottery cash has been given to the group's project, Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future, which aims to promote the joint heritage of the UK and India with particular emphasis on Punjabis in Britain. The Rt Honourable Margaret Beckett MP presented a cheque to the group at a celebration event also attended by Mick McGrath from Awards For All.

As part of the Sathi Group's research project there will be visits to Eleveden Hall in Suffolk to see the ancient house museum and the graves of Duleep Singh, the last Sikh Maharaja of the Punjab. 2012 pledgePledge 2012 Achieved!
The vinvolved Derby City team, based at Community Action in Derby are thrilled to have met their 2012 pledge this month. The team specialises in helping young people aged 16 to 25 to volunteer in the city, as part of the national youth volunteering programme, funded by the national charity v.  Simon Hancox, Youth Volunteer Development Manager within the team, said "We set ourselves a target to collect evidence of over 2012 youth volunteering hours running from October 2008 to October 2009.  We also wanted to offer national recognition for young volunteers taking part in the pledge".

Oliver Dreuitt, a volunteer with the Youth Action Team, took part in the 2012 pledge and achieved his national v50 volunteering award pledge.  Oliver's role is to promote youth volunteering to young people and organisations and services around the city.  Oliver said "When I first started volunteering I was a very shy person who wouldn't really speak to anyone and found it hard to make friends.  Now I am able to communicate with anybody and making friends has become a lot easier.  Working towards my v50 national award has helped me to reflect on my volunteering experiences and to recognise the skills that I've gained".
