From 12 October new measures will be introduced to prevent unsuitable people from undertaking paid or voluntary work with children or vulnerable adults.
 
A new public body, the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA), has been created to implement the new measures.
 
From November 2010 anyone who works (paid or unpaid) with vulnerable adults MUST be registered with ISA. For further information please visit the website

Welcome to the latest issue of Reach Out. This week we bring you important news of changes to the law to protect vulnerable people and details of a FREE enterprise event, as well as links to updated swine flu information.

REMRegeneration Event
Regeneration East Midlands are holding a regeneration event for people working in the public, private and voluntary sector who function within or require knowledge of regeneration.
The event takes place over two days, 16 September and 17 September 2009, from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Belgrave Baheno Peepul Centre in Leicester. Topics covered over the two days include: Principles of Regeneration; Designing and Planning Projects; and Key Strategies and Policies.

Swine Flu - the Facts swine flu
Reported cases of suspected swine flu are increasing every day. It is now more important than ever to be aware of the symptoms and what practical steps you, as an individual, and your organisation can take to minimise the impact. Please visit the NAVCA website or Derby City Council website for the latest guidance and information.
 
Everything Enterprise!
Make a Difference in association with Social Enterprise East Midlands are holding an Enterprise Event on Wednesday 22 July from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm at The Enterprise Centre, Sheridan Street, Sinfin, Derby. The event is aimed at third sector organisations and voluntary groups looking at developing an income or those with an asset or building to develop. The event will feature funding bodies with information of the latest grants; regeneration architects to assist you in making the most of your buildings; website designers; and environmental organisations demonstrating how to recycle and earn money. 
 
There will be FREE workshops throughout the day, so why not come along and find out more about making the most of the resources on offer? Simon's Peak Challengesimon 
Congratulations to Simon Hancox, Youth Volunteer Development Manager at Community Action, on completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. The three peaks are Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough all of which Simon climbed in ten and a half hours in very hot conditions (the challenge is to complete them in twelve hours). In addition to completing the challenge Simon also raised £500 for the Macmillan Hospice. Well done! 
Community and Regeneration Event  University

If you've answered yes to the above questions, then the University of Derby's foundation degree in Community Development and Regeneration is just the course for you.

Interested? Then go along to the Information Event at Britannia Mill, Mackworth Road, Derby, DE22 3BL on 12 August from 10:00 am until 12:30 pm to find out more. You could have an interview on the day and be given a decision about a possible place on the course.
