Funding for Small Charities
The Yapp Charitable Trust
makes grants to small registered charities to sustain their existing work. If your charity is involved in work with elderly people; children and young people aged 5 - 25; people with disabilities or mental health problems; or people trying to overcome life-limiting problems of a social, rather than medical origin, you may be eligible for a grant.
They give grants for running costs and salaries for up to three years. Grants are normally for a maximum of £3,000 per year and most of them are for more than one year because they give priority to ongoing needs.
For further information and to check your eligibility for a grant please visit the website or contact Margaret Thompson on 01484 683403 or email |

Does your sports club need some cash?
Cash 4 Clubs is a sports grants scheme that provides funding to support grassroots UK sports clubs. Grants range from £250 to £1000 and can be used for a variety of purposes, from improving facilities, purchasing new equipment, gaining coaching qualifications, or generally investing in the sustainability of the club.
There are 3 tiers of grants: £250, £500, and £1,000 which are awarded on a discretionary basis. Any sports club can apply as long as they are registered with the National Governing Body of their sport or local authority. Funding can be requested for anything that will add to the sustainability and effectiveness of the sports club. Grants are awarded on a quarterly basis after selection by the committee. Lobby Against Water Charges
Charities and those who
operate community buildings, for example churches and community sports groups, stand to lose a lot of money if proposed changes to water charges go ahead. Ofwat have given water companies until 2010 to start charging ALL users for the disposal of surface water from their properties through public sewers. These charges are already being levied by several water companies and have had a serious impact on charities, non-profit organisations and churches. At present (for the majority of charitable and community group users) drainage charges are linked to rateable value and such groups are exempt from paying the same rate as privately owned or commercial premises.
The Scouts have taken a lead on this issue and are holding a mass lobby of parliament at 2:00 pm on 15 July. They are encouraging as many people as possible to join them to stop Ofwat implementing the charges. If you are unable to attend but would like to support the campaign please write to your MP.
