The Big Brew!
As part of DCP Week, The Older People's Cluster invites older citizens to drop in for a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits and learn what the Cluster is about.

We will give members of groups the opportunity to put their group 'on the map' and register as a member of the Cluster, whilst sharing information about what other social activities are available. Access to websites and support to use the systems will be available as will staff to encourage an exchange of inspiring ideas.

People attending will also be invited to look around the QUAD facilities and to participate in the well-dressing activity.

Banish boredom

A website is aiming to help schoolchildren banish boredom from their lives.
TooDoo, run by Derbyshire County Council, aims to make it easy for 11 to 19-year-olds, their parents, carers, teachers and youth workers to find out about things to do and places to go in Derbyshire for young people.
It offers a searchable list of more than 2500 activities and facilities which include youth, sport and dance clubs, cultural activities such as drama and dance, and leisure opportunities such as cinemas, theatres and museums
All you have to do is type in what you're looking for, or you can search by your town and see all the stuff there is to do near you.
You can check out the thousands of activities that are available across Derbyshire on the TooDoo website or call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058.

Change of name
Derby CVS logoAs previously advertised, Derby CVS will be changing its name to Community Action on 23 June.

Watch out for our new website, signs and logo!

Secret Millionaire logoPut your project on the map
The Channel 4 programme, the Secret Millionaire is building an interactive map of the kind of community projects you see in the TV show. The map showcases all kinds of local projects that benefit people in the community - in particular, it spotlights ones that are little known about and deserve to have their achievements trumpeted more widely.
If you know of a project or group in your area that you feel should be featured, please add it to the map. It will only take 10 minutes to provide the basic information and tell us why you want to champion that particular project, and that 10 minutes may well result in finding donors and volunteers in your area who are looking for a project to support.

Well notesHR Update: 'Well Notes'
The Government is starting a consultation exercise on the introduction of 'well-notes'.  If an employee is on sick leave a GP may issue a sick note stating that they are not fit to work.  However, they are currently unable to issue a note to say that an employee is fit to take on limited duties at the end of the sick leave, but before they are able to return to full duties.

If the proposals are adopted, doctors will be able to say that an employee is able to undertake
* a phased return to work;
* altered hours;
* amended duties; or
* work following workplace adaptations.

It is proposed that the new system would be introduced in April 2010.  The consultation paper " Reforming the medical statement. Consultation on draft regulations" (May 2009) may be viewed here.
Freeth Cartwright squeezeTop Tips for Charities: surviving the squeeze
Invitation to a FREE Seminar
Fewer grants, corporate charitable giving down by £500 million, medical charities forced to cut back on life-saving research, £200 million wiped off legacies... how can charities continue to cope?  By spotting opportunities to reduce cost and maximise income.  Easier said than done, but allow us to offer practical tips and precedent documents to assist you with:
- collaborative working;
- commercial negotiation with suppliers and customers;
- avoiding and quickly resolving disputes;
- financial management and budgetary control;
- managing HR issues during a recession;
- VAT-opportunities to limit its cost to you.

Designed for trustees and charity executives, this session is designed to equip delegates with the know-how to go away and make an immediate cost impact on their organisation.
Your own challenge will be to come back to our next session before Christmas and tell everyone else about the savings you've been able to achieve. Our workshop will be practical and an opportunity for delegates to share experiences in better dealing with the current challenges we all face. Experts on HR and tax matters from Freeth Cartwright and Tenon will be on hand to deal with current issues.

Flexible New Deal
Preferred prime contractors announced

On Friday 29 May 2009, the Department of Work and Pensions has finally confirmed the numerous organisations who will deliver the Flexible New Deal (FND) contract for the UK.

For Derbyshire, the two prime contractors are A4E and Remploy.  Derby CVS has been negotiating with both these organisations and we have been included in their proposals on behalf of the voluntary and community sector.

It is very early stages at the moment and I have no further information to give you at this stage.  However, please note that these contracts will begin in October 2009 as originally scheduled, despite the severe delay by the DWP in announcing the successful contractors.

Over the next couple of months we will be working with both Remploy and A4E to determine how we will support the delivery of FND by the third sector.  Once this information is compiled we will be able to share more with our members, as we will be actively seeking additional placements for the customers from October 2009 onwards.

If you would like to know more, please call Rachel Hayward or Stuart Quenby 0n 01332 346266.
