The Biffaward Small Grants Scheme offers grants of between £250 and £5,000 to support improvements and access to local amenities such as a community buildings, nature reserves and playgrounds.  The project must not cost more than £10,000 in total and must be within 10 miles of a Biffa operation.

Playbuilder Questionnaire

Derby City Council needs your help finding out which play areas you would like to see improved.  
 
The Council has been carrying out a rolling programme of improvements to children's play areas for the last five years and has now secured funding to improve up to a further 16 play areas over the next two years.

A stronger voice for voluntary

Community and voluntary organisations in Derby will now have increased support to take part more effectively in partnership groups and forums in the city.
 
Derby City Partnership has awarded a two year contract to Derby Council for Voluntary Service, Derby CVS, to provide support and improve communication to people who represent the community and voluntary sector on a wide variety of partnership groups in Derby, from Neighbourhood Boards to Partnership Executives.
 
This will ensure that the local knowledge, experience and voice of this vibrant and diverse sector are heard, to enhance and influence strategic planning across the city.  Derby CVS will be recruiting additional staff to provide this service as part of their wider role to support the community and voluntary
sector in the Derby.
 
Hazel Lymbery, Acting Director of Derby City Partnership, said, "The community and voluntary sector has a vital role to play in shaping services in Derby and Derby CVS have the local knowledge and experience to successfully support organisations in this role."

Arts Council theatreFree Theatre tickets for young people in the East Midlands
Four theatres in the region will be giving away more than 21,000 free tickets to under 26 year olds. The new scheme goes live on 16 February with a week of special activities at all participating venues.
 
This is the launch of a national scheme which has been commissioned by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).
 
The four venues taking part are; Royal & Derngate, Northampton, Nottingham Playhouse, Derby LIVE, South Holland Centre, Lincolnshire

Derby Open CentreCultural Awareness Days
Derby Open Centre has extended its services to offer Cultural Awareness Days suitable for adults working in public and private sector organisations.
 
Each day offers visits to various places of worship, all within a five minute walk of the Centre, followed by an Indian cookery workshop, lunch and an afternoon Open Forum led by Centre staff and trustees.
The day includes visits to:
·          Sikh Gurdwara
·          Hindu Mandir (Temple)
·          Mosque
·          Black-led Christian church

Explore how local government and statutory agencies can work together with the voluntary sector to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services for the wide range of survivors in every locality;
Identify ways to take forward and ensure provision of high quality domestic and sexual violence services in all areas;
Promote the National Service Standards for Domestic and Sexual Violence (NSSDSV) and associated Commissioning Guidance;
Promote the Home Office model for a co-ordinated community response to domestic and sexual violence;
Facilitate links between policymakers, commissioners and service providers.
