Only Connect Bursary

ncvo logo
The next round of Only Connect closes on Wednesday 10 December.

Only Connect is a visit scheme sponsored by Triodos Bank, which enables you to visit another voluntary and community organisation (VCO) to learn about their experiences.

£150 is paid for your time and travel to visit another organisation to learn how they have diversified their income through trading, public service delivery or by using loan finance. The host organisation is paid £200 as a consultation fee for their time spent with you.
So, if you would like to:
  • Pursue a new trading idea;
  • Learn about the delivery of public services under contract; or
  • Use a loan to increase the capacity of your organisation to do either of the above;
then apply to Only Connect and learn from colleagues in the sector.

World Aids Day ribbonWorld Aids Day
1 December

Almost 100,000 people are now living with the HIV virus in the UK. (HIV affects families, parents, children and partners, all affected by living with someone with HIV).

Last year, 7,800 people were newly diagnosed in this country.

1 in 3 people in the UK living with HIV do not know they are infected.
HIV is a long term condition and falls under Disability rights legislation.

The theme for World AIDS Day is 'Respect and Protect'. So whether you are a parent, pupil, volunteer, teacher, youth worker, community elder, nurse... we need you to show leadership in the communities you are a part of and work within.  So, why not:

Stay in touch
- Increase your knowledge of HIV.
Get free - posters and leaflets from us.
Know the facts don't perpetuate the myths.
Challenge stigma and discrimination .
Get people talking about HIV, sexual health and well-being.
Look at ways of how you might address HIV within YOUR Community
Break the silence - Wear a red ribbon

As HIV affects all communities, we want you to be part of making a real difference in Derby & Derbyshire. Free resources, leaflets and posters around HIV, or resources around prejudice, discrimination and on Disability legislation around HIV are available from Derbyshire Friend on 01332 207704 or email us.  Some of these are aimed specifically at Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities - please ask.

Common Purpose Matrix
For leaders who want more.
 Would you like to...
  • access new networks across all sectors;
  • raise your organisation's profile with other  leaders in the area;
  • have broader and more rounded perspectives on key issues.
  • make more effective decisions;
  • enhance competence in managing people with differing points of view;
  • have opportunities to exchange ideas with leaders in other professions; and
  • be exposed to new ideas and different ways of solving problems?

All Common Purpose programmes are deliberately cross sector (meaning that every single programme we run includes people from all three sectors); our programmes are rooted in the community; and one has to apply to go on our programmes.

The 2009 Derby Matrix programme begins on 24 February and is followed by a series of intense full days and half-day optional modules.  Leaders of not-for-profit organisations with between 2 and 249 staff are now eligible to access up to £1000 grant funding towards the cost of the Derby Matrix programme through Train to Gain Leadership & Management funding.

Effective Supervision Skills
Different people attach different meaning to the term Supervision. We see it as a supportive, collaborative part of the line-management process, where the supervisee is encouraged to examine and review their work in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.

This is a two day course, held by IDT training, at Derby CVS on 13 and 14 January.
