Derby CVS Community Conference
Derby CVS logo
We will be holding a Community Conference on 13 November, which will also include our AGM.

This is a daytime event, between 10.00 am and 3.00 pm, which we've packed with useful seminars and forums.

The morning will include a talk from the Derbyshire Community Foundation about funding, tips and ideas from CVS Member, Janet Holland of Derwent Stepping Stones, and an inspiring talk from Graham Bennett of Catch the Vision Consultancy.

We will then conduct the important business of our AGM.  We will be in contact soon about nominating someone from your organisation to the CVS Management Board of Trustees.  It is vital that as many CVS Members attend as possible.  This is a real opportunity to feed back what support you need and how we can support you better.

There will then be a tasty lunch, then the following Forums will start:

- Volunteer Co-ordinators.
- Self Help.
- Health and Social Care.
- Leadership.
- Management.

We are holding the conference at the Riverside Centre in Pride Park and look forward to seeing you there.  More information will be sent to you in the next couple of weeks.
Dear Member

Welcome to issue 13, which is packed with ideas, information about training courses and advice about where to find funding.

BBC Children in Need Advice Day
On the 5 December, BBC Children in Need is hosting an advice day for voluntary and community groups who wish to apply for non-statutory funding for work with children and young people, in association with a range of other funders and development agencies from across the East Midlands region.  Delegates will be able to speak to funders about their funding opportunities and how to apply, hear from young people themselves about what they think makes a good project, and attend up to three seminar sessions on topics.

Attendance at the event and seminars is free of charge and lunch and refreshments will be provided.  We would welcome attendance at the event from groups who work with children and young people and are thinking about applying for non-statutory funding, and who are based in Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, and Rutland.

The event will be held at the Castle Cavendish Business Centre in Radford, Nottingham.  The day will start at 09:45 and finish at around 16:00.   If you would like to attend please contact Kathryn Kendall, who will send you a booking form.  Please note that places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.       .

Is your social enterprise idea a
'cash cow' or a 'clunker'?
How often do we get a really good idea and plough right into the planning phase without taking time out to test whether or not the idea will actually work?

This networking event will explore the importance of taking time right at the beginning to test ideas for viability.  Come along and meet other people with enterprising ideas, specialist advisers and Business Link advisers.

This event is part of a wider programme of activity to support the start up of new social enterprises and the growth of existing businesses.

This event is free to attend.  Book your place by telephoning Jules Sebelin on 07949 180556 or email.
