|
Our external income generating training programme will come to an end on 31 October 2008.
Unfortunately, we were not able to generate the amount of funds we required to continue to deliver the courses for our members. We will continue to deliver training courses for you through our existing contracts and forums - Self Help, Volunteer Co-ordinator and Health and Social Care Forums.
At present, the current funding environment does not lend itself to supporting the sort of courses we feel groups need. It is highly likely that this will change again in the future, and CVS will keep a close eye on funding streams as we understand how important it is to offer learning opportunities for you and your volunteers. We are running three courses until the end of October
Professional Telephone and Reception Skills on 2 October.
Effective Project Evaluation Skills on 16 October.
Getting Organised on 21 October - a few spaces are left!
We will also be delivering four courses on personnel procedures and employment law information to trustees and project managers in November - more information to follow. If you have any questions please do not hestitate to contact Rachel Hayward.

Complusory Retirement Age can be justified! The Advocate General has given his Opinion in Age Concern Englandv Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, or the Heyday Challenge as it is more commonly known. The AG has stated that the compulsory retirement age is not discriminatory on the grounds of age. This means that employers can insist on a normal retirement age of 65. Whilst the case still needs to be formally heard by the European Court of Justice, due in early 2009, it is likely the opinion of the Advocate General will be followed.
In all cases of employees approaching normal retirement age you must ensure that you follow your end of employment policies and procedures. The employee can request to work beyond retirement age, and employers must give this request serious consideration. For any support with this area of employment, please contact Rachel our HR specialist on 01332 227714 or send Rachel an email. |
Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures - update The latest on the government's review of the failing dispute resolution legislation has led to a repeal of the legislation and the existing law on unfair dismissal procedures. The Employment Bill is to be considered by Parliament and it is hoped that the effects will take place in April 2009.
In the meantime, continue to follow your procedures based on the three step process (letter, meeting, appeal) for both disciplinaries and grievances. Use ACAS website for help or contact Rachel, our personnel advice specialist, for more practical support for a particular situation. www.acas.gov.uk or call ACAS on 08457474747 |
