HR Update: Changing Sick Pay Procedures Many voluntary and community organisations are looking to reduce costs and an occupational sick pay scheme is one benefit you may want to change. If you do want to do this, you will need to discuss with your employees why you need to change this, and what you will introduce in its place (ie, the basic statutory sick pay, or SSP or payment once two days absence have been taken.) If you do want to change your procedures, contact Rachel, our personnel advice specialist, who can help you to work out a model that fits your group and help you talk to your staff. For information on the statutory sick pay scheme go to www.dwp.gov.uk/lifeevent/benefits/statutory_sick_pay.asp

Mental distress - Want to help others understand what it's really about? This summer, Mental Health Media's Open Up project is launching a new initiative, for people with experience of mental distress who want to take on mental health discrimination.
Mental Health Media are looking for applications from groups or individuals who want to challenge negative attitudes about mental health where they live.
The initiative will give people the freedom to choose what kind of anti-discrimination project they would like to run. Chosen projects will receive a tailored package of 'project support' - training, mentoring and help with expenses.

Review of the Compact The Government has had 10 years to embed the Compact into the policies and processes of its departments and agencies, but despite this it's still not meeting its Compact commitments. A three month dialogue to discuss the future of the Compact and the role of the Commission for the Compact is now underway. A dedicated email address: debate@thecompact.org.uk has been set up to receive comments and will be open until Monday 10 November 2008. The Commission will then analyse the views and evidence, and forward proposals to the Minister of the Third Sector.
A formal public consultation will be conducted after this, with an impact assessment, on the Government's intentions for the future of the Compact.
There is also a Compact conference on
9 September in Birmingham and the Regional Forum has prepared a Briefing Paper. NCVO are also carrying out a survey to hear your views on how the Compact currently operates and how it could be improved. Find out more at www.thecompact.org.uk/information/ |
